Finally.....getting in to see the therapist the psyc recommended. Wow, 8 months of lost time! The psyc dropped the ball there.
Avatar n tn My son is extremely hyperactive. Lately it's gotten worse. He can't even keep food down, because he is all over the place afterward. He also has some serious sensory issues. He smears poop & vomit. Would Abilify help with these issues? If not, what would? We are desperate. He hasn't kept food down for 5 days. We brought him to the ER, but there was nothing they could to do, because he isn't sick. I talked to his specialist yesterday.
Avatar f tn The psychiatrist is supposed to be an autism specialist, and there are not too many in our city who claim that. My daughter is getting her masters in Pub Admin and is researching insurance coverage for autism--it is such a fight between insurers and schools as to who should pay for services, and meanwhile our kids are the ones suffering. Saw a special about Risperdol and how boys are growing breasts; my grandson is on that medication and it scares the heck out of me.
Avatar f tn Abilify was just proven to treat the aggressiveness/irritability associated with autism spectrum disorders. ABA has been a Godsend for my son (he was dx as severely autistic at 26 months old, and boy oh boy have we had behavioral/aggression issues). That being said, when my son is on medication, he has weird reactions. Ibuprofen makes him crazy hyper (my daughter too). Steroids he is an absolute nightmare.
Avatar n tn m not thinking like Big Pharma. LOL #1 prescribed brings in 13% of what #?? Abilify brings in...gotta think of a way to charge those hypos more for their meds... Hmmm...maybe that's why the price of levo (all brands and generics) just took a huge jump.
Avatar m tn Our 11 yr. old son has had many diagnoses. High functioning autism, bi polar, odd, adhd, aspergers. he is on 5mg abilify and 40 mg stratera. We have had him on numerous meds, but abilify really has helped him. Stratera was just introduced in the last couple months, but we don't see much change. We home schooled him this last year due to him being agressive at school.
Avatar f tn I have had therapists do evals on him and they have ruled out autism and aspergers. They are not doctors so I have not had a complete diagnosis at this point. I feel like this is strictly a mood disorder and I recognize several of these behviors on his fathers side of the family. I'm a single mom and now my job is on the line because i've continuously had to leave work to pick him up.
16638194 tn?1449934941 I am in desperate need of some insight regarding medication for Autism and ADHD. My son is 7 years old. He started out on Risperdal when he was 4 but we quickly took him off because he quickly ballooned by 15 lbs. in 1 month. We eventually ended up on Abilify and Tenex (Guanfacine) and he's been taking that combination for about 3 years. Now we are at the point where those two meds were not working at all and we were already at the approved dosage limits.
Avatar n tn t know it was the abilify is because she had started it before I got involved in her daily medications. I finally decided to ask her neuro for permission to wean her off of any meds that could have any type of psychiatric effect on her mood and personality. He agreed to allow me to taper her off of Abilify first. He didn't really think it would help, but he agreed to let me try. One week after the taper down was complete.... She "woke up". She walked into my house on Christmas eve.
Avatar n tn and is currently in a special education classroom in hopes that one day he can be in a regular classroom. He is so impulsive that at age 2 he unlocked a bedroom window climbed out (6 ft drop) and ran away to splash in rain puddles in the street..( I happened to be in the restroom) After Screwing the windows shut, the next week he threw a can good through another window to escape.
Avatar f tn to make sure that he didnt have an ulcer from the stimulants right now my son is on no meds cuz Abilify is marketed to adults probably never studied in children and its very new I wont use my ten year old as a test dummy.
Avatar n tn As we have reported in the past, the findings of many large scale studies show no link between autism and either thimerosal in vaccines or the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine. (Previous coverage in our Research Newsletter can be accessed at the first link below).
5274485 tn?1385860167 Anytime a girl represents signs of Autism, her symptoms will be different than males. Girls with Autism tend to not show the reckless behavior which is observed in males. Autism affects girls different than males. The actual number of girls/women with Autism is not as often reported because the signs are often missed in female population.
744777 tn?1235089263 For more info on sensory issues you can google the name Olga Bogdashina and read an article by her printed in Autism Today. She also has a book called Sensory and Perceptual Differences in Autism and Aspergers. Our Autism Outreach department uses the questionnaire at the back of this book to get sensory profiles on the children. I completed one for my son and found it very useful.
Avatar m tn That most probably is prolactin elevation which can cause female hormones to increase in males so that there is sexual dysfunction and pain in the nipple area. Having discharge from the nipples can occur too. I did experience that when I was on standard antipsychotics and its a common side effect. It depends on its severity. Having breast milk is rare but that can happen. It should go away in time. However keep your doctor informed and they will follow up.
Avatar m tn So, my kid would have been put on meds had I tried to make him fit in or sit in a chair in school. We chose to homeschool until he was 8, his therapist said that is likely the only reason he can function as well as he does. Had my son been pushed to fit in at a young age, he would have lashed out, withdrawn into himself, and likely be on a regimen of drugs. Running around with no purpose or direction doesn't hurt a child or anyone else, so that is not a good reason to be medicated, IMO.
Avatar n tn He also displayed dramatic improvements in social skills and made friends as an adolescent (in spite of limitations in verbal communication). Cognitively, my brother is on the level of a younger elementary student. After my brother turned 21, my mother and I began to notice changes in his fine motor capabilities. The first sign I noted was he was unable to stir a beverage due to pronounced hand tremors.
Avatar n tn Having not wanting to deal with the symptoms I was switched to 20mg of Abilify. They told me the abilify would not cause any problems of sexual dysfunction, but after I started taking it the problems seemed to get worse and worse. It's got to the point where it's difficult if not sometimes impossible to obtain an erection and even harder to ejaculate. I am wondering what I can do or take to reverse these side effects?
Avatar m tn He has a IEP at school, also has had least 1/2 a dozen throats scopes as he has EEG, also a gastro dr. The meds he has been on over the years we are pretty sure helped but one issue in particiular has not only stayed the same but has gotten worse. He is 16 now and soils his pants everyday. We get calls from school saying he had an accident in a school. He has a change of clothes at school. The school is aware and his IEP says he is allowed to go to the bathroom every 2 hours.
292592 tn?1234139424 Hi, I've wrote for advice many times and here I am again. First off, has anyone heard of a Bi-ploar child that is very good at school but very naughty at home? This is what is confusing me the most right now! My daughter is 7 years old. We have tried so many medications on her. She is currently on strattara and rispoldole. She has been out of control since being on rispodole. She was on abilify but we increased the dose 3 times and it still didn't re-control her symptoms.
Avatar n tn we have tried several meds. currently he is on 50 mg of vyvanse, 40 mg of citalopram and 2mg of abilify a day. his behavior is beyond horrible. should i just take him off meds?
Avatar f tn I have read about the different types of Autism and am wondering if I should take my son in to be tested. I will explain below some of his behaviors to see if maybe I should look towards Autism. I really dont know what to do, but I just want to help him. I also feel that I need to make sure that he doesnt hurt any of my other children when he gets into his "episodes".
13126824 tn?1428652469 I take Zoloft and Abilify for bipolar disorder. My sugar levels were heightened due to Abilify, but I am now taking Metfforman to level out my sugar level because Abilify has the ability to heighten sugar levels. I am not a diabetic. Does cholesterol have anything to do with this cramping?
Avatar f tn I'm in so much pain. It's like Satan placed his hairy *** cheeks on my life. Last August of 2015 I stopped taking Abilify, after taking it for a year because it caused me to shake a lot, and I was worried about getting tardive dyskinesia. Also, last year I've been working hard animating and drawing daily, because i want to be an animator.
Avatar m tn I afraid send him to school because las time when he was aggressive they call 911.We try also respirdone, abilify, invega, seroquel.Nothing is working on him for long period. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!
