abilify how does it work

Does anyone out there know if abilify really does work, I have only been on it 4 days and feels like it has not kicked in. Please help. Thanks to all.

I went to the doc about an hour ago and he gave me effexor and Abilify i know nothing about it could you plz tell me about it? are they any side effects? Does it help and how long does it take to start helping??

i actually started ltrptophan two days ago and into day three now with no ill effects. it does seem to be helping but don't know yet if i feel a little better because i don't have to leave the house this week or next week. i can't believe i got through the week. radio shows and poetry/photo or painting comp underway and hope they go well. also got four short plays in before deadline for Irish association of suicidology which they will use as educational dvd so that was good too.

I found Lamictal to be the most effective for mixed states but each person responds differently to each medication. Abilify was activating for me but other people I know found it to be of help. I don't know if your specific reaction was to Abilify or if you have had that reaction to other antipsychotics as well.

The use of it is still experimental but some psychiatrists (especially psychopharmocologists who specialize in how medications work) will prescribe it. As its not specifically approved for this purpose they are just learning how it works. Generally the more common mood stablizers (lithium, Depakoate, Lamictal) are used first. However I have been tried on all other available mood stabilizers but either wasn't able to tolerate them or over time they stopped working over time.

If you're taking a med that doesn't work and makes you feel worse, tell you psychiatrist and move on. Abilify has only been approved for cases of depression where nothing else has worked because of its side effect profile, so if it isn't helping you, have your psychiatrist properly take you off it. Meds affect people differently, and this one apparently doesn't agree with you.

Abilify has a lot of information on the web about side effects and a quick google may work well, always remember that side effects are not all going to happen to you or even likely - Abilify is well liked and fairly safe compared to some of the AP and AC drugs like Geodon and Risperdal.

did he say why he prescribed the abilify? Does he still want yout taking the 40mg of celexa and ativan? My shrink mentioned possibly putting me on abilify as well but to boost my lexpro for depression symptoms since I am very sensitive and can only be on low doses of meds. Why did he prescribe it for you?

Does any one take Abilify if so for what reason and does it work? my Dr. just put me on 2mg for anxity and i want true answers I just hate to take something thats not gonna work and then I have to try something else..

I just went back on Abilify since Geodon sent me into another world. I took it before and it worked but I gained weight so they took me off. I can't remember how long it was before it started to make a dent in my BP. I've been manic and this is the 1st time this has happened. Maybe it was the meds? I'm scared because I'm technically not medicated until the Abilify kicks in. Anyone know from experience?

I was on Abilify 5 mg and had muscle twitching so my psych. lowered the dose to 2 mg. It has really helped. 15 mg. sounds like an extremely high dose. How many mg are you on now? It does make me a little restless, but I'll take that over the voices and hallucinations anyday.

Only bummer about Abilify is the cost. it can be very expensive. It works for a lot of people and may work for you also. Give the Abilify a good 6 weeks to work at full effect. Keep in touch and if you need me you can always PM me.

i was on it...but never that dizziness,,it made me very mania in 4 days stopped it..

Never worked for me but, it does for some so definitely worth a try.

I am starting the slimfast program tomorrow. My question is does it really work? I am also in a wheel chair..But i do get my legs walking 1 or 2 hours a day .

Well I don't know how well it treats my anxiety to be honest, sometimes it seems like it might be causing anxiety but I gained like 40 pounds on it which I really dislike. I've been trying the three hour diet to counteract this since I have physical problems that kind or prevent me from getting out and exercising or even feeling like doing it to begin with. For some reason I don't look like I weigh as much as I really do or so people have told me.

I did it and it was right about me having a girl amd my hair dresser did it and it was right for her having a boy...

Wellbutrin did NOTHING for me, at all. I do have personal experience with that. I do not have first hand experience with the Abilify but my mom takes and one of my ex's took it and it works miracles for them. I hope it works for you, just give it a chance, it may take a little while. Don't really know how the therapeutic effects will be while you are coming off the sub, if I read that right. However when it starts working, it will take the edge off of the depression.
