642393 tn?1227032656 I've taken Abilify for yrs & love it. I have none of the side effects I had on other drugs. Try it!
Avatar f tn So, My daughter has bipolar, we've tried a few medications. Abilify caused massive wieght gain - so we've switched to Geodon. She's been taking the Geodon for over a yr now and we've had this problem that I can't seem to change with anyother variable.... thus I'm asking if anyone else has this issue with Geodon.
440120 tn?1211724496 I take Abilify and it had less side effects than the Geodon I took before it. It did cause me to gain weight however and doesn't work as good as the Geodon did in some aspects but works better in others. Abilify disrupts my sleep as well much like ILADVOCATE experienced but it also sedates me at the same time.
Avatar f tn So yesterday Abilify(2mg in am) was added to my 600mg(3002xd)Lithium, 1mg(1xd)Xanax and of course 50mg(1/2 or 1@bedtime)..Has anyone had any experience with Abilify?f it's something bad..nevermind.
Avatar n tn Doc replaced the geodon with abilify 15mg a week ago and I have great energy. Im afraid I will gain weight rather than lose, but I am more active so I have hope I will lose more weight ( 30 yr old female 190 lbs. 5'5) Should I keep my hopes up to lose weight or is it to soon to say?
Avatar f tn Any medication can sometimes take a week or two or longer to take full effect while some will take effect instantaneously. It all depends on the person of course. When I took Geodon I sometimes would "drool and stumble" figuratively for the former (felt really dumb some days) and literally for the latter (dragged my feet and sometimes felt drunk).
Avatar f tn soooo i switched from abilify to geodon bcuz of my weight gain does any1 take geodon??? if so how r the side effects???
Avatar n tn I experienced some heart palpitations on Geodon and was taken off it. Abilify has the least risk for diabetes and is considered the safest as regards tardive conditions so that's often what they consider the best option. I understand that in cases of severe psychosis that psychiatrist consider it an option to give two antipsychotics at once but because of the ever present risk of tardive dyskinesia, its best if a person can tolerate one.
1255530 tn?1269867619 I only share basically half of your diagnosis but I am on Abilify currently for psychosis. It works better than Geodon did in different ways but worse in others but I like it better than Geodon worked for me. Namely Abilify has treated my paranoia and inability to express myself which Geodon never touched which ruined my quality of life significantly but it is not working as great for my hallucinations and things like that.
497950 tn?1255863927 I was on Geodon after Abilify made me gain weight. The Geodon , for me, didn't work for bipolar symptoms but I am a diificult case. Abilify was the only med that worked. However, I did loose weight on Geodon and for the 2st couple weeks had an usdet stomach. If this drug works for you, and you know it's trial error for us anyway, I think you'll be please with the lack of side effects. I didn't even know I was on it after a week.
Avatar f tn I switched between abilify(TD),respirdal, geodon to Seroquel and it was a horrible first two years my mouth and tongue tremors and body tremors
Avatar f tn An SSRI generally is of concern for someone with bipolar and can easily worsen mania. Abilify like all antipsychotics can treat it. Abilify and Geodon are activating, that is they will make a person more likely to be awake instead of being sedating. I know when I was on Geodon and Abilify they kept me up practically the whole night but they didn't make me manic. Some people find it better to take it in the morning for that reason.
Avatar m tn i hear good and bad on it..and 99% of the side effects are to sleepy?? can you funcshion on the geodon?? i dont want to hear the facts on this med..or i would look it up myself..wanting personal experience's thanks alot james p.s. how long does it take to feel better??????????????
Avatar n tn To the poster on Abilify -- you should research drugs and not just think about them because they're getting a lot of advertising. Abilify is only approved for depression when all other meds have failed. It has a high side effect profile, and is usually used for augmentation, not stand alone.
202665 tn?1248806733 I was on Geodon for about 3 years. About six months of overlap with Zyprexa at the beginning - it took forever to get off of Zyprexa - and almost a year of overlap with Seroquel at the end. It was a good drug in general. I remained relatively stable the entire time I was on it, but still experienced significant sleep problems. Eventually tried Seroquel because I had already been on all of the others (I had problems with Abilify, too) and it tends to have more of a sedative effect.
Avatar n tn Since starting to take Geodon 7 months ago I feel absolutely worse. I am very depressed, extremely self conscious, paranoid at times and my self esteem is at an all time low. I never in my life experienced this degree of depression. Is it possible that Geodon is causing these problems.
Avatar m tn Well my medication is going to have to be changed because of the reaction I had to it when it was increased and I didn't gain any weight on Geodon so I was wondering what other antipsychotics have a low chance of causing weight gain like Geodon because I used to be fat and got picked on a lot for it and don't want to go through that again.
Avatar n tn I began taking atypical antipsychotics just over a year ago, and stopped just over a month ago. I have been on Risperdal, Abilify, Seroquel, Zyprexa, and Geodon, in that order. Risperdal caused me to have a grand mal seizure. I was only on it for a month or so, and I was taking a fairly low dose (I don't remember precisely how much). Neither Abilify and Seroquel lasted long because of unpleasant side effects (nausea and twitching/akathesia).
603543 tn?1255294450 dr iscontinued my abilify due to too many side effect...i was taking 2.5mg, tapered it to 2mg, the withdrawel is horrible, i feel like i have the flu, my head hurts, im shaky, anxious, it is horrible..after this should i just tsop the abilify or continue to tper till i get low, i am very sensitive to meds , but dont want to feel like this all the time...im too exhausted to do anything....or if anybody has some solutions for the withdrawel symptoms that would be great..
Avatar f tn aripripazole (abilify) and ziprasidone (geodon) are 2 other atypical antipsychotics like your olanzapine (zyprexa). nobody neither your pdoc can tell their effect on you, it's all trial and error everybody manifests different effect and side effect. he/she only prescribed them to you because they don't make you put on weight gain contrary to zyprexa, that's all.
447130 tn?1225470866 I just went back on Abilify since Geodon sent me into another world. I took it before and it worked but I gained weight so they took me off. I can't remember how long it was before it started to make a dent in my BP. I've been manic and this is the 1st time this has happened. Maybe it was the meds? I'm scared because I'm technically not medicated until the Abilify kicks in. Anyone know from experience?
Avatar n tn I have had memory and concentration problems since last July/August when I took Abilify for one month. I was also taking Klonopin at the time. Before this I was taking Geodon 120 mg. The memory was so bad that I did not understand anything after reading a page in a book. The memory and concentration has become much better but still quite bad. I believe this has a lot to do with decreasing my dose of Geodon over a few months to 10mg.
Avatar f tn As happens both Geodon and Abilify are activating meaning that they can keep you up at night and make you feel speeded up. Of course there are other antipsychotics as well and of course other mood stabilizers and anti-depressents. You may not feel the withdrawal symptoms now but as time passes and the medication gets out of your system you will and they can be unsafe. As well what they are treating will return.
