Abilify for treatment of anxiety

Common Questions and Answers about Abilify for treatment of anxiety

abilify

Avatar f tn Abilify is an atypical antipsychotic, what is your son's diagnosis? Sometimes, Abilify will be used as an adjunct treatment, along with another antidepressant, to treat anxiety or depression (more often depression). The addition of the Abilify to another antidepressant is done to improve the effectiveness of the AD (which of course is all speculation).
Avatar n tn Actually Ativan is more for anxiety and Abilify is more for depression but it can also help with anxiety. This is common practice, trust in your doctor. Best wishes.
Avatar m tn i have never taken antidepressants before I am 33 yo male. She recommended I try meds. I asked for a very low dose of something and she prescribed 2 mg abilify every night before bed. After going home and reading about this drug I'm super apprehensive about it! Trust my doc, she has been great for 3 years now but I'm a little nervous bout taking this. Any advice? Experience? It is not as an add on. I take no other meds for anxiety or depression. ThAnks so much!
Avatar f tn Some say it does.
Avatar f tn s not that common but within the realm of possibilities. If it happenned before treatment though it could just be anxiety disorder. As for the other thing you are describing that could easily be cognitive confusion which is a common side effect of antipsychotics (although Abilify is the least likely to cause it) and Lamictal can occasionally cause it although it didn't in me when I took.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know much about the drug Abilify? I have been taking the lexapro for a few weeks, and not sure that it is the right drug for me. About four days after I started taking it I felt really stranged, confused, depressed. I started the med for anxiety/panic. Not feeling as bad now, but still alittle down. I took lexapro a year ago for just about a month, but did not have this side affect. The dr said we could either change antidepressants of try taking .5 of the lexapro and 2.
1255530 tn?1269867619 Yes these would be side effects of concern. Abilify and the related SDA antipsychotics can at times cause heart irregularities. Having trouble breathing (potentially) and having stiffness in your neck or back could be due to temporary movement disorders (if dystonia is left untreated a person could have trouble breathing, for that reason its best to have a side effect pill with you at all times, check that with your doctor).
569026 tn?1216982293 HI there. I have a long history of "stuff". Taken several SSRIs in the past for anxiety. Adderall XR for ADD, Wellbutrin too. I have been seeing a therapist for about 4 months and he had me go for a psychiatry evaluation a few days ago. The two concrred that I am "complex" and could be a combination of BiPolar 2, Adult ADD and even...Borderline Personality Disorder (god I hate that name). Anyhow, one of the main symptoms we all agreed upon was the mood swings.
Avatar n tn I have been on the combo of 450mg of wellbutrin and 40 mg of abilify for over 5 years now, probably more. I love it!!!! It has changed my life for the better. It sounds like you have an anxiety disorder as well. I do as well. I take 1mg of zanax twice a day or prn. Also, i have had narcolepsy for over 5 years. Thats a real pain to deal with! i take alot of stimulants and brain transmitting meds for that as well. it sounds like u might need to have a sleep study done by a specialist.
Avatar f tn 00 pm. with benztropine .05mg the same amount of pills for the side effects of abilify; however that only worked for a while. Then my psychiatrist with experience for 46 years in the mental health field told me to take Benadryl for the akathisia attacks. This worked great for a long time; however eventually it did not work anymore either. Then I discovered from an answer to prayer to take Queen's Delight.
Avatar n tn we have tried several meds. currently he is on 50 mg of vyvanse, 40 mg of citalopram and 2mg of abilify a day. his behavior is beyond horrible. should i just take him off meds?
585414 tn?1288941302 Weight gain and the potential of diabetes is a potential for all currently available antipsychotics. Abilify has the least potential to cause this. Abilify and Geodon are activating and can make some people feel anxious. As for Fanapt and Saphris they are newly released and are clinically similar to Abilify but that doesn't mean they will have the exact same profile.
1280947 tn?1278376332 Some times we have to try several different meds to find the right one for us. A lot of us even take a combo of meds. You've only tried two so don't give up. There has to be something to give you some relief from your depression. Therese83 did make a couple of good points. She's trying to help you. Ablify is usually not given to patients alone. It's given as a booster med along with an antidepressant. I hope you find something that works for you.
Avatar n tn I am on 80mg of Prozac and was on 2 mg of the Abilify. I was doing well for a few week and then it seemed to poop out on me again. So the Dr. upped my Abilify to 5 mg. I have been at that dose for week and I am feeling ton of anxiety, worse than before. Anyone have a similar experience, whether it has been with the same meds or different? I don't know if I should ask to be switched or hang in there a bit longer?
Avatar f tn I have one friend who felt horrid on Abilify and does wonderfully on Zeldox. I know my pdoc said his most common combination is Seroquel for sleep and lamotrigine to stabilize. So I am not promoting any one med - just saying to keep trying until you get some relief.
Avatar m tn Involuntary muscle movements are a symptome/side effect of some mood-stabilizers, I'm not for sure if abilify is one of those meds. I do know that usually its like tremmors rather than rocking. Is it possible that you always rocked lol and you maybe are just now noticing it......
Avatar f tn The doctors have talked to me about adding a mood stabilizer but i have been reluctant to do this as i am not one of those types of people that like to rush for a pill to fix everything and i don 't know if it's good for a small boy to be on so many medications, however i do believe they are beneficial when needed. I grew up having social anxiety disorder but it was never diagnosed or treated until i was an adult.
574118 tn?1305135284 He substituted tegretol with Abilify as my MS. I heard well of Abilify and I happen to have come across http://www.askdrjones.com/2005/02/14/ranking-the-mood-stabilizers/ . To tell you the truth I became happy because I know tegretol needs blood tests, etc…while abilify has a few side effects except some anxiety. I only became suspicious about its potency as a mood stabilizer. Otherwise why do pdocs recommend always one of the triads (lithium, depakote, tegretol) or lamictal lately.
Avatar n tn I have been taking the lexapro for almost 2 weeks now for anxiety/panic. After 4 days of just half a dose (5mg) I felt really strange and depressed. Alittle better now, but still down more so then before the lexapro. Is this something that goes away once you're on the med for awhile? I already had severe anxiety with panic, I don't want to add deppression on because of the meds, if this is the case. Now the dr. wants me to try the 5 mg of lexapro and 2.
Avatar n tn ve been participating in a lot of informative groups regarding treatment for depression and anxiety as I have a son suffering a good deal right now and see more and more that augmenting treatment, taking a few different meds together seems to be a growing trend and with positive benefits for patients. Everyone is different though. Are you working with a psychiatrist?
Avatar m tn Most experts believe alcoholism is generally driven by depression. I suppose it could also be used for anxiety, but a lot of people actually get worse anxiety when they drink because drinking affects equilibrium and those with bad anxiety often feel disoriented when sober. But some do use it for that. Marijuana also causes anxiety in a lot of people, or at least brings it out, but for others it does the opposite -- at least while you're young.
1100992 tn?1262357216 How many of you have been on the same treatment for a long time? Like years? I was diagnosed a few months ago, and am finally starting to feel normal. I never knew normal. :) I'd like to stay on the meds long term, and I read on the abilify site that treatment shouldn't be longer than a year or so. What if something's working for you? Can't you just stay on it? Seems silly to me.
Avatar f tn Elderly people with psychosis related to dementia (for example, an inability to perform daily activities as a result of increased memory loss), treated with antipsychotic medicines including ABILIFY, are at an increased risk of death compared to placebo. ABILIFY is not approved for the treatment of people with dementia-related psychosis (see Boxed WARNING).
800339 tn?1270433486 He did say that if this medication works, he does intend to have me be on it long-term. So I am to take 1 mg of Ativan (twice a day) in conjunction with the 1 mg of Abilify. I will start this regime tomorrow (Thursday). I've researched the drug a little, but would like to use you guys as my sounding board. I am concerned about being on this drug long-term. So my questions are: What was your experience with Ativan? How long were you on Ativan? Did you have any side effects?
