899491 tn?1243773627 Sleep is interesting while being on Abilify. When I do go to sleep it's a deep sleep for two hours then I wake up. This pattern goes on throughout the night until morning. I do get my eight hours of sleep. When I started Abilify I couldn't wait for my next dose to increase. I started at 5mg then up to 10mg then I can't wait for my next appointment for the next higher dose. Could this drug be addictive?
Avatar f tn i took it last nite and i woke up this morning light headed the i took the pill i was surpose to this morning and it made me feel worst like i was about to faint so i went to sleep and i slept for 6 hours and 30 minutes and im still sleepy so i mite have to go back to abilify...is there any other medications i can take that dont make u gain weight???
Avatar f tn Having real trouble sleeping - well ok, more trouble than normal! I take 3.75 to 7.5mg zopiclone anyway at night but even that isn't working. I just don't feel tired. The trouble is I know it will hit me and I will crash, I just don't know when and I really hate that. I dare not make any plans for the next few days because I don't want to have to cancel them when I finally crash into sleep land.
Avatar m tn It would help on bipolar but its doubtful it would help sleep but you could ask your psychiatrist more about this. One known option for sleep (although it has no mood stabilization properties) is the medication Rozerem that works to adjust the sleep cycle and is safe and non addictive. You could ask your psychiatrist about this as well.
16773127 tn?1451336964 I also need Seroquel to sleep decently (have been an insomniac since childhood), and it would be the perfect medication for insomnia if not for the weight gain problem. To make things worse, a few years ago I was also on Abilify. I was fat and happy for a while there. When the doctor changed & took me off the Abilify, I was astonished that I lost about 20 pounds without changing anything.
1564087 tn?1308947518 Seems to have helped with me winding down to sleep bc my sleep got really screwed right after adding abilify at bedtime. I have noticed a difference in how good I feel, it's nothing drastic, but I didn't need anything drastic, just a tiny boost. I think there may be some withdrawal though, if I don't take it soon enough. I have gained weight, bu I attributed it to not wearing my CPAP for sleep apnea at night for a few weeks. I will keep an eye on it. So far, so good.
Avatar f tn t much, but my understanding this drug is only officially approved a last-ditch antidepressant for those for whom nothing else worked. I assume there are good reasons for this limited approval. (Keep in mind doctors can use these meds for anything they want once they're approved, but knowing what they're approved for gives some information on what studies showed). As to that particular side effect, any drug that affects the brain can make one sedated or the opposite, overstimulated.

He also put me on a low dose of abilify 2mg for a week then up it to 4 mg a day. I slept good last night, went right off to sleep and did not wake up, still woke up tired, shucks!! but the kittne woke me up so who knows what time i would have slept too...

Avatar n tn If you are noticing that you require less sleep or feel elated during the day, please speak with your doctor as this is usually not the desired side effect. Abilify is now being marketed for those with depression. But it was used in clinical trials for bi-polar disorder... This is a strong anti-psychotic so please be careful.
Avatar n tn I was told that ambilify has the potential to effect your sleep pattern and stop you being able to sleep. , I just assumed that as I am prescribed 10mg in the morning , that everybody when prescribed ambilify took their dose in the morning too. . That will make any other answers you have very interesting As to the life spam of ambilify I'm not an expert by any means but I think it's active life cycle is around 12-15..hours in your system.
642393 tn?1227032656 I was on Abilify for a few weeks but found that it was not effective. I was on Seroquel for a several months but went off due to weight gain. Was switched over to Geodon, which was the worst drug I was ever on. The side effects were alarming. I'm now back on the Seroquel 200mg/day and find that it stabilizes my mood, and helps me to sleep, which has always been a huge issue. Unfortunately medication is trial and error.
Avatar f tn I've been taking abilify for about 6 months now and I'm up to 20mg a day. It seems to be working but I'm not having the drowsy side effects that you speak of, but then I do take my bipolar meds at night, which seems to decrease any sleepiness I might have. Also my doctor prescribed a medication called Provigil to help counteract the drowsiness caused by my medications because I do take several and all of them may cause drowsiness.
Avatar m tn Abilify is an antipsychotic used as a mood stabilizer that is helpful for some people. Give it a chance. One side effect that's common from Abilify is that it is activating instead of sedating so it can keep a person up at night so if this is happenning you could ask your psychiatrist if you could take it in the morning. Keep a mood tracker and sleep tracker as well and bring them the results and they could see what to do from there.
440120 tn?1211724496 I found out that my Pharmacy has a program for me to get Abilify for free so I want to give it a try. I was wondering if there are any bad side affects to look out for.
Avatar f tn It has helped my mood swings and my depression but somtimes I feel muscle stiffness and fatigue, I told my phyc. doctor and he perscribed somthing called benztropine and trazadone hcl for sleep.. so now I have these extra pills for the side effects of the original pills! I don't like this is it safe for me to be taking so many pills? im only 39 years old and I take more pills than my 83 year old grandma!
Avatar f tn After years of continued difficulty with bouts of depression, anger/irritability, sleep, I saw a new doctor in 2015 who prescribed Abilify 5mg along with Adderall. He mentioned that he thought I continued to have issues because of the Prozac but did not officially give me a diagnosis. I immediately saw the benefits. However, at the end of 2016 I went through a severe bout of depression and discontinued the Abilify.
1700643 tn?1464846682 Im looking for advice/experience anyone has adding abilify to there current anti depressant.Im asking for bith myself and my husband. He takes 50mg if zoloft&refuses2take more because@100 he experiences serious sexual side effects&doesnt want2switch to a different kind of primary A.D. I take300mg of effexor XR.We both feel like the meds we r taking r helpong to keep us out of a severely depresse state but know we can feel better.
Avatar m tn Yes all atypical antipsychotics have the potential of weight gain although Zyprexa has the most potential for this side effect. Risperdal and Abilify are also available in rapid dissolve format and Abilify has less of a potential of weight gain although each person responds differently to each medication. The mood stabilizer Lamictal is available in rapid dissolve format as well.
Avatar n tn thank you for your post do you know anyone taking this med how is it suspose to make me feel. i had to go off the seroquel and abilify. i could'nt sleep for 3 nights so now i'm on lunstra 3mg and trazadone 100mg. i feel lousy. and because i had meds dropped and new ones added i don't know what's making me feel down, the going off or going on.
497950 tn?1255863927 thanks for all the responses! I saw my psychiatrist today and I asked for zyprexa (stupid me) my insurance barely covers it. It still costs me $100 after insurance. I don't think there is any way around the expensive part. I am going to ask for Seroquel or Geodon next week when I see him. I called my insurance and those are the cheapest ones for me. I am just not going to worry about the weight gain and just eat well and exercise.
569026 tn?1216982293 Taken several SSRIs in the past for anxiety. Adderall XR for ADD, Wellbutrin too. I have been seeing a therapist for about 4 months and he had me go for a psychiatry evaluation a few days ago. The two concrred that I am "complex" and could be a combination of BiPolar 2, Adult ADD and even...Borderline Personality Disorder (god I hate that name). Anyhow, one of the main symptoms we all agreed upon was the mood swings.
