1052851 tn?1307741160 And I will add that schizoaffective disorder is schizophrenia with a mood disorder which in my case is bipolar. In schizoaffective disorder a person experiences psychosis all the time whereas in bipolar with psychotic features it is only during moodswings. You could ask your psychiatrist more about it and we have some websites linked up for information. One that's not linked up that you could find some clinically accurate information on in addition to Medhelp is Schizophrenia.

Avatar f tn My husband is bipolar with psychotic features or schizoaffective. He started abilify 10mgs and seems fine now after many monyhs of non-treatment and pychosis.
1499921 tn?1308446605 My brother still takes it to this day. Abilify made it hard for me to control my weight and motivation. I was thought to have bipolar disorder however since I have been away from my adoptive mom I have had no symptoms of mental illness. I think the first couple of weeks you are on it you are great. However, after that first month you’re less in a state of control. At that point I seem to see that true benefit of the drug is in effect. Abilify is less helpful after the first month.
Avatar f tn That is correct that a fair amount of people do have some moodswings with treatment for bipolar. However, I have schizoaffective disorder which is as psychiatry is finding is a more severe variant of bipolar with psychotic features. As I've explained in many posts I'm on an experimental antipsychotic glycine, a glutamate antagonist in Phase II FDA study. I've been identified as recovered and the results are going to be documented in a psychiatric journal.
575214 tn?1218040360 s on two antipsychotic as well (Seroquel, Abilify). I have schizoaffective disorder and generally did not need more than one antipsychotic. Did they diagnose any form of psychosis in him? Benzotropine is a side effect pill. It is used to stop motor restlessness in antipsychotics but if he is experiencing that that may contribute to the problem. I take Clonidine in patch form.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with schizoaffective and adult adhd. I take abilify and citalopram for the schizoaffective disorder and vyvanse for the adhd symptoms. I find that since i have been given adhd meds, my condition has stabilized completely. I was not well on the schizoaffective meds alone. i still had problems concentrating and with focus .As well as social problems and listening to others and paying attention.
1742269 tn?1315381633 Works pretty good for where I was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder for my psychotic symptoms and negative symptoms but it made me gain a significant amount of weight.
Avatar f tn Hello, i've got a daughter,25.years old who has schizoaffective disorder, she's in hospital at the moment, already 2. month---------i'm despair there's no change in her condition with all the treatment what she get. I would like to know if it's possible more detail's about her illness & treatment.
Avatar n tn I have never experienced Schizoaffective Disorder as a patient, but I manage cases with Schizoaffective Disorder for a Behavioral Health insurance company. It sounds like the symptoms you are most concerned about is the disconnected, "spacey" feeling your daughter is experiencing. The feeling is not uncommon among persons who take antipsychotic medications.
1012542 tn?1313354880 Hi everyone Chris here, new to group. I'm Bipolar II rapid cycling mixed episodes. I'm looking for some feedback on Abilify from some of you that have tried it. I hate messing around with my meds as it seem like forever trying this that and the other. Currently on Effexor XR, Depakote, and Seroquel. Still seems like not enough relief. So to add Abilify and discontinue one or leave it alone? My Phd. is not much help on this one, I think I've burned him out.
Avatar n tn I already have enough mental problems as it is (schizoaffective disorder), so I was not going to go to yet another doctor just for them to tell me I had to go to therapy or take more medication. The bedwetting was infrequent enough to allow this to be justified in my head. Now, I have come to the point where I cannot hide any longer, and am willing to face the possibility that there is a real problem here. I wet the bed every night now, and also have extreme nighttime sweating.
Avatar n tn He is having severe memory problems. Is it due to Geodon? He has schizoaffective disorder. He was also put on cogentin and inderal.
918275 tn?1254068752 s a strong antimanic but has more stabilizing properties. Sio for depression abilify works better for sure. However it's worth asking the pdoc about that it might bring mania. There are sites which rank abilify as the best stabilizer then comes seroquel then lamictal then risperidone then lithium, etc...zyprexa... So whether an antipsychotic can work as a mood stabilizer depends on whether it lifts depression and al;l the past AP's do it with varying capacity.
Avatar f tn Abilify is an atypical antipsychotic, what is your son's diagnosis? Sometimes, Abilify will be used as an adjunct treatment, along with another antidepressant, to treat anxiety or depression (more often depression). The addition of the Abilify to another antidepressant is done to improve the effectiveness of the AD (which of course is all speculation).
1100992 tn?1262357216 I have been on the same mood stabilizer for 10 years and another one since july 2009.If you are diagnosed as Bipolar you have to take mood stabilizers for a long time.
3248163 tn?1354847640 Yeah public aid (this is my last year on it.) pulled my abilify. It made me feel so..amazing. So real. Whatever I suppose, got denied four times. I also found out in america you cannot get coverage with a pre-exsisting condition. Thats just great, im fearful im going to just end up homebound. Just a lonely possibly schizoaffective young woman, doing nothing with her life because she cant afford the only medication that allowed her to work. My title has nothing to do with my rant.
Avatar m tn m feeling scared that this is only temporary. I have been on anti depressents for many years and have those good weeks and then it disappears. Although, this feels much different....Anyway....fingers are crossed.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Abilify for reasons that the doctor thought it was necessary to put me on it. It seems like there has been some benefits with the drug that others around me have noticed, but there is one bothersome effect that I believe the drug is causing. Although i am not fat, I seem to be gaining weight way too rapidy. Before starting on the drug i was 148 now I am 155 and its only been one month.
Avatar f tn ok so i have bipolar 1 disorder and i stopped taking abilify on my own because of my weight gain and my doctor said i have to take sumthing so he put me on geodon...i took it last nite and i woke up this morning light headed the i took the pill i was surpose to this morning and it made me feel worst like i was about to faint so i went to sleep and i slept for 6 hours and 30 minutes and im still sleepy so i mite have to go back to abilify...
728480 tn?1312059930 Well you are talking about two different issues. First of all, psychological and Freudian theories are now considered outdated as regards psychiatric disabilities (my prefered term for mental illness). That doesn't mean people with psychiatric disabilities don't experience normal feelings that need psychotherapy. And there are complex issues.
Avatar n tn my doctor has given to me abilify and wellbutrin, is it good for quit smoke and go school well? i cant go school well. i cant stay in classroom. even i cant go to school. i always want to stay at home. i am out of my home, i quickly want to go back my house. also i smoke 3 packet cigarette in a day. also i have serious sleep disorder. i explained my problems to my doctor. then he gave me wellbutrin and abilify combination. what do you think about it?
569026 tn?1216982293 Taken several SSRIs in the past for anxiety. Adderall XR for ADD, Wellbutrin too. I have been seeing a therapist for about 4 months and he had me go for a psychiatry evaluation a few days ago. The two concrred that I am "complex" and could be a combination of BiPolar 2, Adult ADD and even...Borderline Personality Disorder (god I hate that name). Anyhow, one of the main symptoms we all agreed upon was the mood swings.
Avatar f tn Most cities offer some kind of meetings at support group for people with relatives afflicted with the disorder. In addition, there are many online support groups like these: http://www.mdjunction.com/forums/parents-of-bipolar-children-discussions/general-support/311487-welcome-to-the-parents-of-bipolar-children-support-group http://www.bpso.
569043 tn?1216845586 Hi, I have been diagnosed with Manic Bipolar Disorder and I am currently taking Abilify. I was simply wondering if this prescription can possibly affect the patterns of a menstrual cycle??
1201916 tn?1277603095 It works better than Geodon did for me but I take it for a psychotic disorder rather than a mood disorder but bipolar disorder can have psychotic symptoms and every medicine works differently for each person.
