8641508 tn?1399117307 Hello everyone, so Im new to this. I have been diagnosed with panic disorder, ocd, and as you guys with ocd know depression coincides. I am on 20 mg lexapro, 5 mg kolonopin, and 2.5 mg of abilify. I am struggling bad lately. my depression is starting up again, not severe enough to be hospitalized but is starting up. Im believing that everyone around me thinks im crazy i dont know why. I got in a fight with my sister yesterday and I started crying because I also got into a fight with my mom.
526901 tn?1216334227 If the Abilify works except for panic attacks, why don'y you see about adding an antidepressant first? The reason I say that is Lamictal is a great drug but it takes 5 weeks to build up to the appropriate dose. Everyone goes on a 5 week starter pack. That's a long time, while Celexa and Lexapro for example work within 2-3 weeks. They help with panic attacks. This is provided Abilify helps you, if not, I would see about switching too.
Avatar n tn Cause of such panic disorder mostly remain unknown but in this disorder you may feel symptoms like tingling, shortness of breath, feeling of choking, pain in the chest, nausea, stomach ache, feeling dizzy, tingling or numbness, chills or hot flashes, bounding heartbeat or fast heart rate, sweating, shaking etc. even without any underlying disorder. This disorder needs to be thoroughly assessed by a psychiatrist first since this can occur repeatedly and without warning.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know much about the drug Abilify? I have been taking the lexapro for a few weeks, and not sure that it is the right drug for me. About four days after I started taking it I felt really stranged, confused, depressed. I started the med for anxiety/panic. Not feeling as bad now, but still alittle down. I took lexapro a year ago for just about a month, but did not have this side affect. The dr said we could either change antidepressants of try taking .5 of the lexapro and 2.
Avatar f tn Abilify is an atypical antipsychotic, what is your son's diagnosis? Sometimes, Abilify will be used as an adjunct treatment, along with another antidepressant, to treat anxiety or depression (more often depression). The addition of the Abilify to another antidepressant is done to improve the effectiveness of the AD (which of course is all speculation).
Avatar f tn ok so i have bipolar 1 disorder and i stopped taking abilify on my own because of my weight gain and my doctor said i have to take sumthing so he put me on geodon...i took it last nite and i woke up this morning light headed the i took the pill i was surpose to this morning and it made me feel worst like i was about to faint so i went to sleep and i slept for 6 hours and 30 minutes and im still sleepy so i mite have to go back to abilify...
526311 tn?1229286330 There is no 'high' with abilify so I think you are safe. I take it for bipolar disorder. If you were to take more than you needed you would make yourself sick but not high because each dosage increase often causes side effects like nausea and constipation. Your brain will get used to the drug and discontinuing it will cause certain symptoms. But it isn't addiction. It is just your brain complaining because you are altaring its chemistry. So I think you are okay.
Avatar n tn my doctor has given to me abilify and wellbutrin, is it good for quit smoke and go school well? i cant go school well. i cant stay in classroom. even i cant go to school. i always want to stay at home. i am out of my home, i quickly want to go back my house. also i smoke 3 packet cigarette in a day. also i have serious sleep disorder. i explained my problems to my doctor. then he gave me wellbutrin and abilify combination. what do you think about it?
569026 tn?1216982293 Taken several SSRIs in the past for anxiety. Adderall XR for ADD, Wellbutrin too. I have been seeing a therapist for about 4 months and he had me go for a psychiatry evaluation a few days ago. The two concrred that I am "complex" and could be a combination of BiPolar 2, Adult ADD and even...Borderline Personality Disorder (god I hate that name). Anyhow, one of the main symptoms we all agreed upon was the mood swings.
Avatar f tn thanks for your response i believe abilify is approved for children the doctors have mentioned it to me before. The risperdal seems very heavy duty to me i would like to take care of more than one problem with one medication i will read more about abilify.
Avatar f tn DBT - Dialectical Behavior Therapy has been really helpful for me with my mood disorder and helped with dealing with my anxiety and panic attacks. DBT was developed for Borderline patients but it is very helpful with Bipolar as well. Talk to your new doctor about recommending a psychologist that offers DBT. It will make a huge difference with your depression and anxiety.

Avatar m tn I’m agoraphobic , panic disorder , bipolar depression. I’m prescribed Effexor 225 er. Zyprexa (15) makes me too tired though, amitryptiline 150 for sleep mirtazipine 15for sleep. Gabapentin400 mg 4 times a day for anxiety. I have trouble getting out of bed when my daughter isn’t here with me. That’s the only good thing about me is I’m a great father with 50/50 custody. I also am a former addict .
Avatar f tn After getting the diagnosis last night, I have had a couple panic attacks today and went from hypomanic to a depression coming on. I want to know what to expect from either abilify or lamictal. It's a toss up which drug I will be taking.
569043 tn?1216845586 Hi, I have been diagnosed with Manic Bipolar Disorder and I am currently taking Abilify. I was simply wondering if this prescription can possibly affect the patterns of a menstrual cycle??
1201916 tn?1277603095 It works better than Geodon did for me but I take it for a psychotic disorder rather than a mood disorder but bipolar disorder can have psychotic symptoms and every medicine works differently for each person.
Avatar f tn s not the cause of the mania (of course it could easily be that its just not working well enough and the whole issue is their judgment). Abilify can be helpful for many people but for me it was very activating and I had to change back to another antipsychotic. See if it works.
Avatar n tn Actually Ativan is more for anxiety and Abilify is more for depression but it can also help with anxiety. This is common practice, trust in your doctor. Best wishes.
Avatar f tn I'm on week 3 of Pristiq after Cymbalta pooped out on me after 5 successful yrs on it. First tried to switch me to Zoloft and that made me worse (February 2014). Until 3 weeks ago, they tried to add things to the Cymbakta (Abilify, buspar) but it wasn't working (for deoression/anxiety). 3 weeks ago to Pristiq 50mg.
Avatar n tn The only way to be diagnosed is to see a psychiatrist and be assessed. There are many drugs used to treat bipolar disorder. Some are Seroquel, Abilify, Lithium, and Risperdal, though there are many more. Depression is just being down and sometimes having a normal time between periods of depression. Bipolar disorder has depressive episodes but also hypomanic or manic episodes. I would suggest going to NAMI.org for more information.
1356915 tn?1277344103 i was on abilify and an antidepressent.... but the side affects of abilify for so bad i had to stop taking it. i could make sense with my words, i was shaking, swollen tounge, loss of concentration... i couldnt sit still and i constantall had to be moving something on my body. but thats just me.
Avatar n tn Some anticonvulsants do work for bipolar disorder. I don't know what they specifically treat in bipolar disorder, but if it works similar to antipsychotics in the disorder, it would probably be better to switch to an anticonvulsant rather than continue taking an antipsychotic, provided it works for you. Prolonged usage of antipsychotics can have permanent side effects, but not always.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder and general anxiety disorder for years until I had a major manic episode then it changed to bipolar 1 and general anxiety disorder. I think it can be easily confused. I think there are mixed opinions on whether a person is considered bipolar or not from antidepressant induced mania. They may want to make sure they are making an accurate diagnosis.
Avatar m tn HI I am new to this site on bi polar disorder. I am 52 years old, and for years and years I couldnt understand as to why my moods shifted from good to bad within an hour to two at a time. Feelings of great joy, then boom, feelings of sadness.I used to self medicate with opiates to try to soften things up, but it just made things worse. Went to psych and was diagnosed with bi polar disorder. I am now on 20 mg of lexapro and 5 mg of abilify.
712802 tn?1274645485 I was on both for about 2 years, before changing Cymbalta for another antidepressant. Yes, Abilify can, but only definitely, cause a movement disorder called akathisia. It causes a restless feeling which could cause you to need to pace, or cross and uncross your legs... something like that. I did get akathisia but opted to stay on Abilify because it helped me so much. My pdoc added propranolol, a beta blocker that lowers blood pressure, decreases anxiety AND takes care of akathisia.
Avatar f tn s possible and I know for a fact that with me, the evenings and the afternoons are the worst for me as a person with bi-polar disorder.
