I took Abilify for almost a year for Bipolar Disorder II, both in combination with Lithium and on it's own. When I was on the Abilify alone, I noticed uneasyness and racing thought, similar to what cowgirlnerd said. I felt more hypomanic than usual, so I suppose it had kind of an "upper" effect for me. When used in combination with the Lithium, I felt much more balnanced and steady.
Is their anyone out there that has cyclothymia that can pm me to talk please? I am in need of answers as I was diagnosed with this. My heart is broken and I want to be in denial, but I feel so bad right now I have to face this. After getting the diagnosis last night, I have had a couple panic attacks today and went from hypomanic to a depression coming on. I want to know what to expect from either abilify or lamictal. It's a toss up which drug I will be taking.
DX with Cyclothymia and was given script for Effexor, then Seroquel and now Abilify. Dumped Seroquel down toilette and want to do the same with Abilify.
Pristiq was the best and want to find MD who will put me on that.
t much, but my understanding this drug is only officially approved a last-ditch antidepressant for those for whom nothing else worked. I assume there are good reasons for this limited approval. (Keep in mind doctors can use these meds for anything they want once they're approved, but knowing what they're approved for gives some information on what studies showed). As to that particular side effect, any drug that affects the brain can make one sedated or the opposite, overstimulated.
Abilify is actually an antipsychotic drug that has anti-depressant properties. Usually Abilify is used for schizophrenia, bipolar disorders and as an adjunct therapy (add on therapy) for major depression. The treatment prescribed depends on your psychiatrist’s assessment of your case. However, the dose prescribed is the lowest for the drug.
Treatment for depression usually begins with a low dose of SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors). Some doctors prescribe benzodiazepines too.
First choices depend on which type of bipolar you have (I, II, NOS, cyclothymia) and what your main symptoms are. For instance, if you have psychosis with your episodes, and atypical antipsychotic might be a good place to start, but most of them can cause weight gain. Geodon is the exception, being weight neutral (and Abilify is almost as good apparently from the weight standpoint).
Has any one be diagnosed with cyclothemia. I have been told this for years from my General Practisioner, but now I'm wondering if I am more bipolar than anything. I feel very alone and it is very difficult to make social plans or commitments as I never know how I'm going to feel. Most of the time I live like a hermit...never want to come out the house very much unless I have a good day.
Thanks DLA for responding. The psych. stated that I was definetly in a manic state in observing the change in me from Friday to today. She still won't state if it is definetly bipolar. But she increased my Risperadal and put me on Lithium 300 mg 3x dly. Took my first dose late this afternoon, will be taking second dose soon. Well, I guess it is a waiting game now.
My husband and I both have ADHD, I have had excellent results from taking Adderall...I'm concerned about whether or not it's actually helping my husband or not though. I really have no idea if the issues that I'm seeing are because of the Adderall or something else, and can't seem to talk to him about it without making him angry.
my doctor has given to me abilify and wellbutrin, is it good for quit smoke and go school well?
i cant go school well. i cant stay in classroom. even i cant go to school. i always want to stay at home. i am out of my home, i quickly want to go back my house. also i smoke 3 packet cigarette in a day. also i have serious sleep disorder.
i explained my problems to my doctor. then he gave me wellbutrin and abilify combination. what do you think about it?
t sectioned, but overdosed on on 42 of my quetiapine three weeks later. I died once and went into a coma for four days and was in hospital for pneumonia since I ripped a tube out for four weeks afterward. Then I went into a second hospital. My quetiapine was stopped and my diagnosis withdrawn, and I only got worse.
A mild form of bipolar disorder called cyclothymia involves less severe mood swings. People with this form alternate between hypomania and mild depression. People with bipolar disorder type II or cyclothymia may be wrongly diagnosed as having depression.
In most people with bipolar disorder, there is no clear cause for the manic or depressive episodes.
From what I've read people with recurrent depressions but no obvious hypomanias or manias can be labeled as soft bipolar because they think recurrent depressions are part of the bipolar spectrum. People with 'soft' bipolar will often have - here comes a really technical term' "poop out" so antidepressants cease to be effective treatments or at best partial treatments.
