Abilify for aspergers

Common Questions and Answers about Abilify for aspergers

abilify

Avatar m tn High functioning autism, bi polar, odd, adhd, aspergers. he is on 5mg abilify and 40 mg stratera. We have had him on numerous meds, but abilify really has helped him. Stratera was just introduced in the last couple months, but we don't see much change. We home schooled him this last year due to him being agressive at school.
Avatar f tn Get a copy of the policies for your school district. Be an advocate for your child by informing yourself of the laws in your area. Clearly there is more going on with him and I would not treat anything until I was positive what his diagnosis is. I find it hard to believe that at age 7 he has adhd, aspergers/hfa, autism, and a mood disorder. There are usually excellent clinics at the university hospitals. They are specialists and can do the most complete evaluations.
Avatar f tn Abilify was likely prescribed because of a diagnosis of juvenile-onset Bipolar Disorder. This is a somewhat controversial issue in pediatric mental health. Be that as it may, he does require mental health services, including pharmacological treatment. Abilify may not be the best choice, however, and an evaluation with a child psychiatrist as a second opinion would be prudent. An alternative treatment would be risperidone.
Avatar m tn My son, whom we adopted when he was one, was early on diagnosed with ADD, but just last year he saw another specialist that changed that to Aspergers. That's a good thing, because it will get him some help from the state later in life that otherwise would not have been available. The problem is that he has turned into someone that I literally fear to be around much of the time.
Avatar f tn t much, but my understanding this drug is only officially approved a last-ditch antidepressant for those for whom nothing else worked. I assume there are good reasons for this limited approval. (Keep in mind doctors can use these meds for anything they want once they're approved, but knowing what they're approved for gives some information on what studies showed). As to that particular side effect, any drug that affects the brain can make one sedated or the opposite, overstimulated.
Avatar m tn Hi (sorry in advance for the long post), I am a twenty year old male in Las Vegas and have been struggling with mental health problems for my whole life, but only realizing my thoughts were abnormal for the past 2 ½ years. I was first diagnosed as a child with anxiety but we thought nothing of it.
Avatar f tn I would like to say that my son is in a treatment facility for bipolar/aspergers is San Marcos Texas and it is great! So if way down the road you need the help, it is out there, you are not alone.
569026 tn?1216982293 Taken several SSRIs in the past for anxiety. Adderall XR for ADD, Wellbutrin too. I have been seeing a therapist for about 4 months and he had me go for a psychiatry evaluation a few days ago. The two concrred that I am "complex" and could be a combination of BiPolar 2, Adult ADD and even...Borderline Personality Disorder (god I hate that name). Anyhow, one of the main symptoms we all agreed upon was the mood swings.

Avatar m tn Abilify is actually an antipsychotic drug that has anti-depressant properties. Usually Abilify is used for schizophrenia, bipolar disorders and as an adjunct therapy (add on therapy) for major depression. The treatment prescribed depends on your psychiatrist’s assessment of your case. However, the dose prescribed is the lowest for the drug. Treatment for depression usually begins with a low dose of SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors). Some doctors prescribe benzodiazepines too.
Avatar f tn He is now back to full blown meltdowns in school and we are awaiting a phone call to get him back on. The anxiety and stressors in school for an Aspergers child can be miserable and something we could never understand.
Avatar n tn My 14 year old daughter has been taking 750mg of depakote and 300mg of seroquel daily for 4yrs. She is about 50 lbs overweight & diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome. I want her off her meds. How will she be weaned and does anyone know if she will lose some of this weight gain? She is somewhat active and does try to keep her weight down but at each psych. visit she has gained more weight.

585414 tn?1288941302 Weight gain and the potential of diabetes is a potential for all currently available antipsychotics. Abilify has the least potential to cause this. Abilify and Geodon are activating and can make some people feel anxious. As for Fanapt and Saphris they are newly released and are clinically similar to Abilify but that doesn't mean they will have the exact same profile.
Avatar n tn 1 mg of Clonidine. The stipulation was to give my son 1/2 a pill of Abilify for 7 days then the full 5 mg dose for the next 7 days and we would meet with the Psychiatrist again after the two weeks. I read every bit of the side effects paper work given with the Abilify. My son after 2 doses of the 1/2 a pill of Abilify is having tremors. The paper work I was given do NOT state this as a side effect but some websites did state this was a side effect for children taking this medication.
Avatar m tn I have been on a couple anti- psychotics (seroquil, abilify) but I only have mild bouts with psychoses. I have been on ativan for anxiety and it helped, but it messed with my memory. I would feel terrible when didn’t take it, which kinda sucked. I don’t have much of a problem right now with insomnia, but I have been on: seroquil, ambien, lunesta, I hated waking up in the morning on them.
Avatar f tn I am a ton more concerned about his well being than I am about me getting some sleep. We had an evaluation on Friday and he definately met the criteria for Aspergers...we still have to take more testing to see if it is HFA or Aspergers.
Avatar f tn Hi, my son is 22 years old and has all the signs of aspergers syndrome. He was never diagnosed, and as a child we thought he was just shy, and was told he had ocd. He is very high functioning and drives, has a part time job and has graduated from college. But he lacks any kind of social skills. He also has sensory issues. I am presently working with him on his social skills, and his sensory problems with the help of other parents on different forums I have been on. .
Avatar n tn Aspergers and other behavioural problems such as adhd and ocd are genetic so it is very likely that you can have two children with them. It is important for you and your children that you get them assesed as then you can find out what the problem is and how to help your children. I read one of your earlier posts about your three year old dont worry many people with aspergers and similar disorders live relatively normal lives i know because my husband has it and ocd.
Avatar f tn I have been on Abilify for about 3 months now, and it is currently the only medication I am on. It has worked wonders for my anxiety, and has helped somewhat with my depression. I can now socialize with ease whereas before I just had too much anxiety to deal with any social situations. Abilify has definitely made me more easygoing.
Avatar f tn gain and titrating up on Lamictal for obvious mood swings. Idk, Abilify worked well for me with Zoloft for approx 8 years. Good luck to you!
