After years of continued difficulty with bouts of depression, anger/irritability, sleep, I saw a new doctor in 2015 who prescribed Abilify 5mg along with Adderall. He mentioned that he thought I continued to have issues because of the Prozac but did not officially give me a diagnosis. I immediately saw the benefits. However, at the end of 2016 I went through a severe bout of depression and discontinued the Abilify.
I am so sorry to hear you're having problems. I completely understand because I have had similar problems with meds in the past.
I would suggest talking to your doc and asking for a change in meds or see if there is another drug that you can take in addition to combat the mood problems. I take 100mg of Pristiq and 2 mg of Abilify.
My son is 8 years old and has always had anger problems. He has been in state's custody for almost three years. Two of which he has spent institutionalized. He is currently home but if i can't find a way to help him he will be removed again. I know he will not recieve the help he needs in a facility. It all started when he was 11 months old he would bang his head when he would get mad and the problems just grew from there.
High functioning autism, bi polar, odd, adhd, aspergers. he is on 5mg abilify and 40 mg stratera. We have had him on numerous meds, but abilify really has helped him. Stratera was just introduced in the last couple months, but we don't see much change. We home schooled him this last year due to him being agressive at school.
I am in the middle of switching to Abilify as the Zeldox was quite sedating and I want to see if the Abilify will work better. Abilify is expensive though. About $300 for 10mg. If you get government coverage they will have to apply for a special exemption as it is not normally covered.
Sorry you are having such a hard time. I think brain damage is even harder to treat than bipolar.

A psycho? Are you sure you're on the right site? Abilify is an antidepressant approved for use when all other meds have failed. Sometimes it's used to augment another med, as in this case, to make that med work better. It's highly unlikely there is a highest dosage of Effexor, the other med, but what is likely is it's just not doing the job well enough by itself.
t much, but my understanding this drug is only officially approved a last-ditch antidepressant for those for whom nothing else worked. I assume there are good reasons for this limited approval. (Keep in mind doctors can use these meds for anything they want once they're approved, but knowing what they're approved for gives some information on what studies showed). As to that particular side effect, any drug that affects the brain can make one sedated or the opposite, overstimulated.
My son is taking 200 mg. Lamictal for bi-polar he is having a real problems handling repetitive harmful thoughts. He is also smoking marijuana daily. Does marijuana interfere with the prescribed medication?
I was supposed to start on 10 mg of Abilify, but my doctor decided to start me at 5 mg at night with the Cymbalta and Valium. I haven't noticed any changes except for extreme tiredness. I can't seem to get enough sleep. I know that the Abilify causes you to be sleepy, but most of the medications do that until they get in your system. I'm sure my doctor will increase the Abilify in the next two weeks.
We know vyvance has improved his focus at school for reading and math however, we have moved from abilify to tenex with success. Therapy is fustrating because his behaviour isn't consistent enough to plot a course. What I mean is, one week he is able to manage himself daily then the next week he may have a meltdown resulting from overreacting to a friend's comment then he is ok a few days later. The last therapist was fustrated so we quit seeing her.

Well, I know they use Abilify to treat bipolar, but my doctor says it can be activating for mania in some people. Mania can be dysphoric and irritable mania (as opposed to euphoric mania, which is happy life of the party type.) Also stimulants for ADD can be activating for bipolar.
So, it would be best to talk to his psychiatrist about this to get the best options.
i have an uncontrollable urge to spend money online or at a store and have yet to find a medicine for that! ha ha. i take prozac for depression, abilify for mania, xanax for anxiety, vyvanse for adhd and the list goes on and on for other afflictions but the abilify helps some with anger by controlling some of the mania which can lead to outbursts. i'm on the strongest dose but still have problems.
Abilify is actually an antipsychotic drug that has anti-depressant properties. Usually Abilify is used for schizophrenia, bipolar disorders and as an adjunct therapy (add on therapy) for major depression. i cant go school well. i cant stay in classroom. even i cant go to school. i always want to stay at home. i am out of my home, i quickly want to go back my house. also i smoke 3 packet cigarette in a day. also i have serious sleep disorder.
i explained my problems to my doctor. then he gave me wellbutrin and abilify combination. what do you think about it?
