Common Questions and Answers about Abilify for a 5 year old

abilify

Avatar n tn t kept food down for 5 days. We brought him to the ER, but there was nothing they could to do, because he isn't sick. I talked to his specialist yesterday. She thinks he is making himself vomit on purpose. She said to put elbow braces on him. I want to do more then that. I want to help him calm down & stop having these weird episodes.
Avatar f tn I have had him evaluated more than once and have had him to alot of doctors with no real success. His diagnosis is adhd, bipolar disorder. he takes 5 mg abilify 2x a day 300 mg of lithium carbonate 2x day and 150 mg lithium carbonate at bed time it helps some but he still seems to have no control. what can i do to help my son before it is to late.
Avatar f tn s like Satan placed his hairy *** cheeks on my life. Last August of 2015 I stopped taking Abilify, after taking it for a year because it caused me to shake a lot, and I was worried about getting tardive dyskinesia. Also, last year I've been working hard animating and drawing daily, because i want to be an animator. And in summer 2015 I was accepted to animation programs at art college last summer, and animation was my life, so shaking hands is something I definitely didn't want.
Avatar f tn ve found a combo that works for me. I take 250mg Wellbutrin twice a day and 15mg of Abilify. I also take an anti-anxiety med and sleeping pills as needed. I haven't had any side effects on these medications, and I have low blood pressure already (and had fears of starting Abilify) I have read/heard that people don't all respond positively to this med, but for me, it's the right fit. Good luck finding your combo, and remember to listen to your body and talk to your doctor!
Avatar f tn t much, but my understanding this drug is only officially approved a last-ditch antidepressant for those for whom nothing else worked. I assume there are good reasons for this limited approval. (Keep in mind doctors can use these meds for anything they want once they're approved, but knowing what they're approved for gives some information on what studies showed). As to that particular side effect, any drug that affects the brain can make one sedated or the opposite, overstimulated.
292592 tn?1234139424 We go to a doctor on Wed to see if she has a sensory issue too. Poor baby has been tested for so many things to rule out any other problems that could cause behavioral problems!! She has alot of anger. We tell her no and she says "UHHHH" and screams, than stomps upstairs than slams her door than screams mean things like "I hate you!", "I just want to hurt you!!" It takes her a while to settle down.
Avatar n tn Yes, tremors are a side effect of the medication. It is not one of the major ones listed, but it does happen. Best site I found is this - http://www.rxlist.com/abilify-drug.htm - it's kind of technical, but it tells it like it is. Back to you and your child. I do feel for you. I have been reading posts on the ADHD site for 4+ years now, and I don't remember anyone saying that there 2 year old dropped out of a window to go play in the rain. Maybe a 4 year old - but 2?
Avatar f tn It is run by people with mental illness and is a good resource for all things med related. I learned a lot going on that site and they are not into promotion of any one product. They redesigned the site and it isn't as good, they used to separate out all of the antipsychotics and now group them as one, but it is still the most unbiased information out there. Another thing to watch is that if she is on the meds for any length of time, she'll need to taper down slowly.
Avatar f tn It can also be due to anemia, overactive pituitary gland causing hyperprolactinaemia or abnormalities in the production of luteinising hormone (LH). Low libido is also a side effect of the drugs Abilify and Lamictal. You can consult your doctor and get the dose or the medicines changed. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar n tn t going to be the end result that I have on this drug. Please help! I have a 4 year old daughter and hate the fact that she and the rest of my family have to see me like this. This is basically one of the last options that i have before my md attempts Electro-Convulsive Therapy for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn ve been on Abilify for 6-7 years and I have random memory loss. It makes me crazy, but the meds help in so many other ways that it's worth the loss for me.
744777 tn?1235089263 My 7 yr old son was prescribed Abilify 5 mg to be taken once a day. He started the medicine on Thursday and Saturday afternoon we were in the emergency room because he was urinating blood. The doctor ran a urine test and blood work and said that my son didn't have a bladder infection and that it was medicine related. He also ran some blood work and said that he did not have any kidney or liver damage. We stopped giving him the medicine on Sunday and now he is fine.
292592 tn?1234139424 Oh and forgot, my 4 year old dd is a excelant little girl! She has no anger issues, no deffiance, amazing little thing. In fact she lectures my 7 year old about the correct way we should be acting!!! It's cute!!! Thats where I know me and my husbands parenting has not made this problem happen.
Avatar f tn I was supposed to start on 10 mg of Abilify, but my doctor decided to start me at 5 mg at night with the Cymbalta and Valium. I haven't noticed any changes except for extreme tiredness. I can't seem to get enough sleep. I know that the Abilify causes you to be sleepy, but most of the medications do that until they get in your system. I'm sure my doctor will increase the Abilify in the next two weeks.
Avatar n tn I have been on the combo of 450mg of wellbutrin and 40 mg of abilify for over 5 years now, probably more. I love it!!!! It has changed my life for the better. It sounds like you have an anxiety disorder as well. I do as well. I take 1mg of zanax twice a day or prn. Also, i have had narcolepsy for over 5 years. Thats a real pain to deal with! i take alot of stimulants and brain transmitting meds for that as well. it sounds like u might need to have a sleep study done by a specialist.
Avatar f tn My son has been taking paxil for a year now. He also started taking abilify 5mg and deplin 7.5mg in December. He has been experiencing muscle twitching for a month now so his doctor took him down to 2.5mg of abilify and them completly off the end of last week. He is still noticably twitching in his upper body and face. Could the deplin be causing this or does it just take a while for the ability to get out of his system. Do you think the twitching will go away?
Avatar n tn Those are very unusual side effects for Abilify but medications can interact and lithium is a good medication but it can have interactions with other medications although those two medications can be and are often safely given together. Speak to the psychiatrist more about this. They can't do a blood test for Abilify for blood levels but they can with lithium. Trileptal unlike Tegretol or lithium does not generally require a blood test.
918275 tn?1254068752 Before my current recovery I was on practically every known antipsychotic and although there were ones that made me sleep late into the day I never slept for a whole day, let alone 4 or 5 days. I would strongly suggest seeing a neurologist and getting a sleep test done. Also if your psychiatrist does not take this seriously I might think of changing to another one. Excessive sleeping can be caused by episodes of depression but regardless when its that long a time it should be taken seriously.
Avatar f tn Grubb had her on one but a low dosage. So we put her at a high adult level with a booster(abilify). Within 2 days of going from 90 to 120mg and abilify she has been symptom free for 10 months. She went from barely functioning to totally normal. No symptoms gastro or other for 10 months. It is amazing. It has been great. Then 4 weeks ago my 12 year old started with severe headaches, nausea and stomach aches. Which is exactly how my older one started.
Avatar f tn Started at a 2 then went to a 5 then a 10 he actually had her on a 15 now back down to a 10 and then she will be off after this week. He isn't gradually taking her off of it we are just stopping it but I think he wanted to make sure we were gonna stick with keeping her off the stimulant since the abilify takes longer to get back in the system after its out of it.
Avatar f tn Is he in a behavior program at school? Is he on meds? Is there like a "behavior boot camp" he could go to for a few weeks? I'm so sorry that has to happen .. I work with emotionally disturber kids and it is so unfortunate to see them behave in such a manner... But it sounds like this boy is or soon will life threatening to the family and people around him I woud look into a very structured boot camp or put him on some meds that help with his aggression.
Avatar f tn She has been seeing a therapist for a year and a half. She has been to a developmental pediatrician who basically threw up her hands and sent us to a child psych who was hard to deal with because we could never get a hold of him so we moved to another dev ped who is a specialist in kids with issues. He does not seem to "get it" about how severe this is. She has had an EEG to see if it is some sort of seizure or something but nothing came up.
Avatar f tn This breaks my heart, this little boy should be so happy and enjoying a carefree life of a 5 year old, not living in fear. Your son needs to just start with the school and make sure this boy is okay, and go from there. You all have rights where this child's well being is concerned. As a Foster Parent I learned that even abused and neglected children still want to be with the abusive parents, so just because he cries for his mommy doesn't mean she is treating him well.
Avatar n tn Not feeling as bad now, but still alittle down. I took lexapro a year ago for just about a month, but did not have this side affect. The dr said we could either change antidepressants of try taking .5 of the lexapro and 2.5 of the abilify along with it. Why the combo?
