Abilify for a 5 year old

Common Questions and Answers about Abilify for a 5 year old

abilify

I'm on Geodone and that packs a punch in the wallet and I only pay 30%. I was checking out Abilify as a drug consideration for myself. It really seems to be a love/hate drug. The people taking it either really love it and can't say enough good things or it really did a number on them. With these types of medications you really need to be seeing a psychiatrist. And if your psychiatrist took you off a medication cold turkey - you need to see a new psychiatrist.
I have been reading posts on the ADHD site for 4+ years now, and I don't remember anyone saying that there 2 year old dropped out of a window to go play in the rain. Maybe a 4 year old - but 2? That's gotta be super scary and heart stopping. I can understand your seeking help for him at such an early age. I can also understand why a psychologist wasn't a lot of help. Its kind of tough to reason with a 3 year old.
I have read several entries stating that the Abilify works extremely quickly and my md said the same, I am just hoping that this isn't going to be the end result that I have on this drug. Please help! I have a 4 year old daughter and hate the fact that she and the rest of my family have to see me like this. This is basically one of the last options that i have before my md attempts Electro-Convulsive Therapy for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
He has been recieving CBT from a psychologist for over 5 years which has been helpful. Any info you can share about these meds - especially pertaining to weight gain, sleepiness/sleeplessness, irritability or agitation, and hyperactivity? Better to take in am or pm? He does have trouble falling asleep. My son experiences occasional mild tics - are either of these meds know to exacerbate tics?
Hi all. I'm new to this forum. I'm on day four of taking Abilify 5 mg. I've taken it once before but had to stop due to extreme restlessness. I have RLS really bad anyway and it made it 100 times worse and all the time. I'm hoping that I don't have the same reaction this time. I started taking it again because I don't sleep. Absolutely can't. At all! Drives me crazy. Dr gave me Depakote to try but was not helping me sleep but was making me very sleepy all day.
hi i have a 12 year old son hes been on abiify for quite some time and he all so was taking strtara but he no longer takes stratara but still takes abilify when he first started taking abilify he was taking 5 mg in the mornings and it didnt seem to help and then started 10 mg and that didnt seem to help much then he started 40 mg well i talked to his therapist and we took him off well then he was started to be more hyper silly couldnt keep on task and he got upset at times were he would tear up
Our problems started when the 5 year old was 2, with small violent outbursts, hurting the cat, choking it, hurting the hamsters, and ultimately choking the toddler where I found them in her room, the youngest blue in the face. She is a charm in public, no one believes us that we are experiencing these problems at home. We've tried an endless number of behavior charts, positive guidance, we've been to 3 different psychologists, 5 psychiatrists, group counseling etc.
He hasn't kept food down for 5 days. We brought him to the ER, but there was nothing they could to do, because he isn't sick. I talked to his specialist yesterday. She thinks he is making himself vomit on purpose. She said to put elbow braces on him. I want to do more then that. I want to help him calm down & stop having these weird episodes.
Okay so i have a ten year old boy who has been in and out of behavior hospitals since he was five.He has been like four times. He did good for a long time just taking .5 mg abilify. Until last year my nephew died at age nineteen but my son was not close to him and then my best friends husband who we have be friends with for a long time died on june the 15 of this year. Hi, I'm bipolar I and have been on antipsychotics for little over a year now. Within a few weeks I'll be tapering off Abilify with the help of my pdoc. I'm happy about it, but I still wonder what your experiences have been with lamotrigine (Lamictal) as a monotherapy for bipolar I. I'd really hate to get manic again, but I also feel that Abilify is holding me back in my studies. Any tips and suggestions?
Hi, I am on a combo of zoloft and abilify and it has worked wonders for me. The Abilify really helped get rid of the depression that the zoloft didnt handle. You are right in that it is very expensive. My pdoc gave me samples for a long time but now I am buying it in the generic form from Canada. My last prescription for 100 pills (10mg. each) cost me a total of $70.00. The generic works as good for me as the brand name and is so much cheaper.
Oh and forgot, my 4 year old dd is a excelant little girl! She has no anger issues, no deffiance, amazing little thing. In fact she lectures my 7 year old about the correct way we should be acting!!! It's cute!!! Thats where I know me and my husbands parenting has not made this problem happen.
My husband and mine marriage is paying the repercussions of having a child with a disability and my 5 year old daughter is also. Remember to take time for yourself and marriage/relationships! Don't let yourself get so deep in this disability that you forget who you are, and know you are doing everything you can for your child! if you need support, I would love to talk!
I have had him evaluated more than once and have had him to alot of doctors with no real success. His diagnosis is adhd, bipolar disorder. he takes 5 mg abilify 2x a day 300 mg of lithium carbonate 2x day and 150 mg lithium carbonate at bed time it helps some but he still seems to have no control. what can i do to help my son before it is to late.
The only problem is this is not the first time he has told me he sees ghosts. The last time he was about 5 years old and told me he could see a ghost in our house. In a room that not even the animals would go in. How do I handle this? Do I let him talk to our pastor or do I drop it and see what happens?
As for the weight gain, I don't know what to do. I've been off Depakote for over a month. I've been on the Abilify for seven days. I weighed over my mom's house Halloween night and noticed an increase in my weight. I am so disappointed. My doctor told me this drug was weight neutral. I can't gain any more weight. I have absolutely no clothes to wear. I've been wearing sweat pants around the house and squeeze into my jeans when I have to go out. It's really embarrassing.
Started at a 2 then went to a 5 then a 10 he actually had her on a 15 now back down to a 10 and then she will be off after this week. He isn't gradually taking her off of it we are just stopping it but I think he wanted to make sure we were gonna stick with keeping her off the stimulant since the abilify takes longer to get back in the system after its out of it.
I have a 5 year old son with a history of significant behavioral problems. They started around 3 years old. He also has a feeding disorder requiring a G-Tube. He is very mean at times and has terrible tantrums as if he was 2. Last year he went through a couple month period of getting so angry he would tip over furniture and through things at us and his 8 year old brother. He is extremely hyper from the minute he gets up until he goes to bed.

You are on the right track for even admitting your child has a problem. I have a 5 year old son too. Oh, Rozanna, that broke my heart! As a mom of a 7 year old little boy, I can't imagine what you are going through. Am praying for you and your little angel. Have they ever dx him as schizophrenic? Went to school with a boy who was and this sounds just like him. He would get SO mad and had so much strength that it would take most of the men in the school to hold him down when he got mad, and he was in like the third grade. He talks to things a lot that aren't there.
He has been recieving CBT from a psychologist for over 5 years which has been helpful. I'd like to get some more opinions regarding this med combo.....any info you can share - especially pertaining to weight gain, sleepiness/sleeplessness, irritability or agitation, and hyperactivity would be very helpful. Is it better to take in am or pm - he does have trouble falling asleep. My son experiences occasional mild tics - are either of these meds known to exacerbate tics? Thanks so much!
1 support staff who is even challenged to keep himself safe from him. He recently had to go to the hospital for a severe bite in the hand. He is currently taking Focalin 5 Mg twice per day for the Hyperactivity and the doctor wants to try Zoloft starting at 12.5 MG this weekend. He has been unsuccessful due to tics, td, and sleep disturbance on med trials of all of the following other meds: Celexa, Prozac, Abilify, Risperdal, Strattera, Vyvanse, Methylin and Adderall.
I am happy you found something that works for your daughter! I, also, am in Oregon and have a 6 year old daughter with ADHD combined type. Any chance I could find out the name of the Psychiatrist that has helped you so much? Thanks!
Started me on 60 mg of cymbalta which totally turned my life around I got out was basically a normal kid, I got to go to my senior year not 100% but I was ok. I even played hockey again for a period of time. Try to some this up, it's been three years since then I'm down to 20 mg of cymbalta my livers a little whacked from the Advil from the headaches and stuff, I've seen countless doctors and specialist.
Before my current recovery I was on practically every known antipsychotic and although there were ones that made me sleep late into the day I never slept for a whole day, let alone 4 or 5 days. I would strongly suggest seeing a neurologist and getting a sleep test done. Also if your psychiatrist does not take this seriously I might think of changing to another one. Excessive sleeping can be caused by episodes of depression but regardless when its that long a time it should be taken seriously.
My 7 yr old son was prescribed Abilify 5 mg to be taken once a day. He started the medicine on Thursday and Saturday afternoon we were in the emergency room because he was urinating blood. The doctor ran a urine test and blood work and said that my son didn't have a bladder infection and that it was medicine related. He also ran some blood work and said that he did not have any kidney or liver damage. We stopped giving him the medicine on Sunday and now he is fine.
My 10 year old son has been taking it for a year now and everything has been fine until now.. All of a sudden he has changed... Does coughing tic's, constantly rubbing his teeth together and moving his jaw, cyring, always on edge. And it's funny about the hungry thing cause he takes it at 6:00 a.m. and by lunch time at 11:30 he is not hungry AT ALL... ( the last kid at the table due to not eating his lunch, that means no recess) so I just want to say becareful!

Recently he has started head butting me and pushing through me when he doesn't get what he wants.
