Common Questions and Answers about Abilify dosage bipolar

abilify

Avatar f tn Hi all, I've just found out I am pregnant and I have been taking Abilify (Aripirazole) and Lamictal (Lamotrigine) for the last year, against bipolar disorder, my doctor recommended to reduce it slowly and then stop it. He said that I have taken it so far wouldn't harm the baby. I am still very worried and wondered if anybody has any experience with this. Thank you!
Avatar f tn I saw a new therapist immediately before the start of 2017 who unofficially diagnosed me with Bipolar and decided to prescribe Lamictal, gradually increasing dosage until I could safely discontinue Abilify. Once I reached the therapeutic dose of Lamictal, I stopped Abilify and immediately experienced rapid fluctuations between depression and mania and my therapist told me to go back on Abilify at a reduced 2.5 mg.
Avatar f tn i am bipolar and hurt my back, necessitating the use of steroid injections. since then, i feel out of sorts- tearful, negative, argumentative. what do you do when you are feeling this way?
1100992 tn?1262357216 I was on carbamazepine (mood stabilizer) for years for epilepsy before bipolar was diagnosed. They put me up to the top dosage because it felt weaker as time went by and then it just stopped working and I had a manic episode. The neurologist wouldn't change either the medication or the dosage, (even though I wanted to try lamictal) because she felt that for the most part the epilepsy / bipolar was being controlled by it (I beg to differ) and to stop or change would be even worse.
899491 tn?1243773627 I have not heard of antipsychotics being addictive but I do know Abilify is activating and can disrupt sleep. As well although its FDA approved for bipolar its primary use is as an antipsychotic so it may not be as effective as a standard mood stabilizer.
Avatar f tn can an 11yr old have bipolar? My son has been diagnosed with ADHD, mood disorder, and possible Asperger's Syndrome. Lately we are trying to decrease Abilify and titrate Carbotral. So far he is extremely(manic), aggressive and violent in the afternoons. my question i guess is, do mood stabilizers wear off at some point in the day?
Avatar n tn I had been taking 600mg of the seroquel and my md lowered my dosage to 300 adding 5mg of abilify. For the past two days (first two days on Abilify) I have experienced extreme mood swings and seem to snap at relatively small things. I have read several entries stating that the Abilify works extremely quickly and my md said the same, I am just hoping that this isn't going to be the end result that I have on this drug. Please help!
Avatar f tn I just found out a friend has been on the medicine venlafaxine for the highest dosage and his psychiatrist put him on abilify too recently. What does this imply? He has schizophrenia? He's a psycho? Any thought would be appreciated!
526901 tn?1216334227 This is provided Abilify helps you, if not, I would see about switching too. Geodon is in the family with Abilify and it works fast too, like within a couple weeks. Just a suggestion. Good Luck, I know how frustrating it is finding the right medication. I've been on over 47 kinds of meds over the last 10 years. Cymbalta was another one that helped my panic attacks, I went on that after being on Prozac for 8 or 9 years. It works faster than Prozac but slower than celexa & lexapro.
526311 tn?1229286330 There is no 'high' with abilify so I think you are safe. I take it for bipolar disorder. If you were to take more than you needed you would make yourself sick but not high because each dosage increase often causes side effects like nausea and constipation. Your brain will get used to the drug and discontinuing it will cause certain symptoms. But it isn't addiction. It is just your brain complaining because you are altaring its chemistry. So I think you are okay.
574118 tn?1305135284 s available where you are, Latuda (lurasidone) just got approval for bipolar depression. It might be too expensive, though. Also, have you tried lamotrigine? Abilify is another good suggestion.
Avatar n tn my grandson is 14 yrs old. He is on Lamictil 50 mg and abilify ? mg. he has been on abilify for 1 1/2 yrs and lamictil about 2 months. He is still extremely depressed. We are worried . Should we go to another child psychiatrist. They are really not sure of dx. He did extremely well on abilify for about a yr.
Avatar m tn Abilify is an antipsychotic used as a mood stabilizer. It is relatively effective and its usual side effect being that its activating, meaning that it instead of making a person tired it can keep them awake. Quite common and happened to me as well as other people. It would help on bipolar but its doubtful it would help sleep but you could ask your psychiatrist more about this.
918275 tn?1254068752 Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone can tell me if Abilify has helped for the depressive side of bipolar II? Also I am wondering about something. I am newly diagnosed and under my psych's care I have only had one hypomanic episode. Preventing hypomanic episodes seems to be what my doc is focusing most strongly on, but what about the depressive side, which is where I have the most trouble.
569043 tn?1216845586 Hi, I have been diagnosed with Manic Bipolar Disorder and I am currently taking Abilify. I was simply wondering if this prescription can possibly affect the patterns of a menstrual cycle??
Avatar f tn My doctor added two meds to my bipolar, one is abilify and viibryd, they seem to be working. Have you thought of adding a med or starting if not already on one?
497950 tn?1255863927 There are so many different combos out there. Most of the Antipsychotics will make you gain weight and then there is Depakote (or Depabloat! LOL) It will too. Sometimes, its a matter of the cocktail - one anti with one kind of mood stabilizer will make you gain more. It's a tricky thing...
1240654 tn?1268317515 I recently staring using Abilify for my bipolar disorder...wanted to know if anyone else was on it and about the side affects anyone may be experiencing, if any... I've been using it for maybe 2 months now.
569026 tn?1216982293 I have mixed stat bipolar I so it works great for me. Give it a go, you will know within a few weeks, Abilify kicks in quick. Well it did for me! I love not "swinging" anymore and I feel stable most of the time. I get a little down here and there, but for the most part I am leading a normal life now. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Bipolar 2 and ADHD. My Dr. wanted to put me on Abilify. My question is will Abilify help me with my mood swings caused by Bipolar 2???
1356915 tn?1277344103 I was wondering how Abilify added to an anti-depressant affects a bipolar II? Will it cause Mania?
Avatar f tn The second doctor actually started a broad spectrum treatment. Mood disorder includes depression, mania, bipolar, and substance abuse. Abilify is indicated for depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and could have worked if you had taken it for some time. Please discuss in detail with each of your doctor. You need to make a change in the treatment because SSRI including celexa are not working. Take care!
505907 tn?1258369340 I have been labeled as "bipolar" after many years of being diagnosed as severely depressed. My question is on the meds I have taken since. I was seen at Generose - Mayo (where I was first diagnosed b.p.) and there prescribed a very high (in my Psychologist's opinion) dose of Effexor. He thought this was odd. Do you? For the first time in my life I exhibited manic symptoms. My own therapists and family had never seen me act so strangely.
5032487 tn?1365824021 Lamictal is weight neutral, and is great for bipolar II, and packs most of its weight against depression. Geodon and Abilify are also supposed to be weight neutral, Geodon a little more so than Abilify. Trileptal is weight neutral as well, but its use in bipolar is technically off-label.
