Abilify dopamine

Common Questions and Answers about Abilify dopamine

abilify

Avatar m tn Long time has passed! Abilify is an antipsychotic medication, yes. Keep in mind for your FAVOR, it is ALSO a DOPAMINE enhancer RATHER THAN a DOPAMINE suppressor. It's the best ANTIDEPRESSANT on the market. It allows 40% of the dopamine to be released in the brain creating endorphin release. It's not a dopamine antagonist. How did it work for you 9 FN YEARS ago? LOL! Are you still taking it???
20003388 tn?1515166040 I know that, at least most, antipsychotics reduce the effectiveness of stimulants due to their dopamine blocking properties. Rexulti, like Abilify, is actually a partial dopamine agonist as opposed to a dopamine antagonist. How would a stimulant work in conjunction with a partial dopamine agonist like Rexulti? I am prescribe the Rexulti for depression/anxiety in conjunction with Prozac and Cymbalta. The Vyvanse is being added to treat my severe ADHD, I am the mostly inattentive type.
Avatar f tn Abilify and Geodon are pretty different in terms of pharmacology. Abilify is in a category of its own as a partial dopamine (D2) antagonist. That means that in parts of the brain where the level of dopamine is low it boosts activity and in parts of the brain where the level is high (for instance, where mania and psychosis may be activated) it lowers activity.
Avatar f tn Both pristiq and abilify are expesive therapies. Abilify affects Dopamine by partially stimulating dopamine receptors while also putting the brakes on intrinsic dopamine via affects on certain seratonin receptors. Effexor, from which pritiq was derived as an isomer ( more potent r configuration of molecule, approximate. 50% of parent compound), is not effective until 150 mg on norepinephrine. It is possible, in that 75 mg of pristiq may be required for norepinephrine release.
Avatar m tn If you are not taking any other drugs for depression, then normally your doctor would not start you straight on Abilify, a dopamine agonist. However, as I said, on net a detailed therapy session, psychoanalysis and psycho-assessment is not possible. So, please discuss this with your doctor. I sincerely hope you will find this information useful in your journey towards better health. Good Luck and take care!
Avatar f tn Hi, Emmy. I'm not on Abilify but have a history with Methadone. I looked it up and its s a partial dopamine agonist and don't see anything that suggests it would make you go through withdrawals from Methadone. If anything I think it would increase the effects but I'm not sure. Just be careful. How much Methadone are you on? Are you trying to come off it? Are you on it for pain management, MMT, or just abuse it? I'm only curious and it may help clarify your situation.
Avatar n tn is anyone on saphris? my pdoc changed me from seroquel and abilify to this new med, which i start tonight. the other 2 was causing my blood sugar and pressure to start going up. i felt fine taking this combo but don't want to take 2 more meds for blood sugar and blood pressure.
585414 tn?1288941302 This is a new antipsychotic in development that works in the same manner as Abilify (Serotonin Dopamine Antagonists), Fanapt and Saphris but since each person responds differently to each medication if accepted it should be another option for people: http://www.szmagazine.com/e107_plugins/content/content.php?content.
585414 tn?1288941302 Abilify works in a manner somewhat different from the other antipsychotics and Saphris was based on Abilify (Serotonin-Dopamine agonists) so it should have a similar side effect profile of having less sedation and less of a potential for weight gain and diabetes (though all current antipsychotics can cause this). If you want to know the full side effect profile as well as beneficial results go to the medication website.
1012542 tn?1313354880 Hi everyone Chris here, new to group. I'm Bipolar II rapid cycling mixed episodes. I'm looking for some feedback on Abilify from some of you that have tried it. I hate messing around with my meds as it seem like forever trying this that and the other. Currently on Effexor XR, Depakote, and Seroquel. Still seems like not enough relief. So to add Abilify and discontinue one or leave it alone? My Phd. is not much help on this one, I think I've burned him out.
Avatar n tn So for a basic summary, the current antipsychotics (from Thorazine to Abilify) work by lowering the level of dopamine. The new medications work by raising the level of glutamate transmission and they are far more effective. There are other chemical models in studies as well.
Avatar n tn If your psychiatrist can write up why Abilify works better for you that can be appealed. Abilify is somewhat different than Risperdal as it is a SDA (Serotonin Dopamine Agonist) and as well it is the least likely out of the antipsychotics to cause weight gain and diabetes and less sedating. If it has helped you better or caused less side effects for you than Risperdal your psychiatrist needs to write a letter documenting why.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Abilify for reasons that the doctor thought it was necessary to put me on it. It seems like there has been some benefits with the drug that others around me have noticed, but there is one bothersome effect that I believe the drug is causing. Although i am not fat, I seem to be gaining weight way too rapidy. Before starting on the drug i was 148 now I am 155 and its only been one month.
Avatar n tn I have test results showing my dopamine level as low along with epinephrine, norepinephrine, glycine and taurine. What do you suggest as far as supplements?
Avatar m tn Something interesting happened recently that both illustrates this and makes me think dopamine may have something to do with it. First, let me make it clear that I am not a druggie. I've never taken an illegal, recreational drug in my life, not even pot (and I was in high school in the 1980s!) On a couple of occasions, however, I have taken peyote with Native Americans. The reasons for that are another story. The peyote church I attended was in Arizona, several hundred miles from my home.
574118 tn?1305135284 One thing you might ask your doctor if you can try is stopping the seroquel and starting abilify in its place. Abilify is approved as a monotherapy or adjunct treatment for BP I, and is also approved as an antidepressant add-on, so if depression is your problem, it might work. You could also try other mood stabilizers like depakote, which has pretty good antimanic effects, or tegretol, or lamictal if you mainly get depression. Also, have you ever tried lithium?
Avatar f tn t had mania in awhile, but the depression just lingers on and on. I currently take Lamictal 400 mg, Risperdal 1 mg, daily. He tried me on Abilify and that was a nightmare - made me feel "crazy". Also have tried Geodon - not good on that one either. I miss being happy - even if it was induced by mania. I have so much to be happy about, but I'm just never happy. I have extreme anxiety and every day is exhausting.
Avatar f tn ve read that with schizophrenia the levels of dopamine are high and with ADD the levels of dopamine are low so it does confuse me unless I read something wrong.... I also read somewhere that glutamate levels are the main culprit for schizophrenia NOT dopamine... This is more recent research as well.
Avatar m tn There are some meds that can cause movement issues. Some dopamine meds can, and the commercial for Abilify warns of that side effect. Probably others with the possibility. Don't know what little sleep has to do with it, unless maybe the stress on the body and brain when sleep deprived makes you more susceptible. Yes, do protect your sleep time so as to hopefully avoid these episodes. But jerking and falling when walking is not an expected consequence of a short night's sleep.
1772374 tn?1326246237 Things that have helped a lot in the past but only temporarily are Lexapro (SSRI) and Vyvance (Dopamine Inhibitor) My main anxiety is social phobia which i hope not to last since i'm still young. Lexapro is known for helping people with this but it stopped working for me after i adjusted. The root of the generalized anxiety and panic come from emotional trauma at age 12.
520191 tn?1355635402 BP is mainly a fluctuation in the dopamine and a deficiency in GABA. a higher dopamine makes you manic and a lower one lowers your mood and with a lack of energy. Now BP is mainly a mood disorder and not an energy disorder, why ? coz it has 3 phases: 1. mania (higher energy, higher mood) 2. depression (lower energy, lower mood) 3. mixed states (lower mood, higher energy) 4. rare case (high mood, low energy) so if you can boost your mood you delete 2 and 3.
Avatar m tn My doc has since put me on 1mg of lorazapam 3x a day,and abilify 5mg a day. Its been what 4 weeks now, and I still feel so sad all the time, not to mention the pain in my back and joints. I am blessed to be getting help from a nutritionist who is a friend of a friend. How long do you think this foggy headed sadness will last....I'm sure its hard to say.
Avatar m tn I appreciate the info on this and know what I have to do if I give in again. When I feel like using I'll just ask my wife to smack me in the nose and break it so I can get a dopamine dump and if it goes away just break a few fingers here and there who needs em anyway I can type with a pen.
