abilify

Avatar f tn I just started Pristiq and Im also on ativan and abilify............wondering if anyone else has taken these meds together.I felt great after taking the pill last night now today im kinda scared and spacey feeling...any thoughts?
Avatar m tn I just saw my doc today and he suggested i go on Abilify also. But when i went to the pharmacist he told me it would be $40 a month for the script. I can not afford that. The pharmacist told me about Effexor XR (that will be going generic July 1st). Has anyone been on this?? Has it helped?? I have also tried paxil, WellbutrinXL, and Prozac. These made me more depressed. I guess i just need some help as to what else is out there that works...
Avatar m tn The other two target other neurotransmitters along with serotonin. The possible danger is getting serotonin syndrome, which is an overdose basically of serotonin. It's not common to get it, but when you start combining meds the way you are, you also combine side effects and if you combine meds that work on the same neurotransmitter it is possible to cause serotonin syndrome, or even if you don't, too many side effects of going after the same mechanism in the brain.
585414 tn?1288941302 Abilify works in a manner somewhat different from the other antipsychotics and Saphris was based on Abilify (Serotonin-Dopamine agonists) so it should have a similar side effect profile of having less sedation and less of a potential for weight gain and diabetes (though all current antipsychotics can cause this). If you want to know the full side effect profile as well as beneficial results go to the medication website.
Avatar f tn However, unlike other atypicals it has activity similar to the antidepressant Effexor (serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibition) and buspirone (partial antagonist at 5HT1a). Phew, you don't need to understand all of that to understand my response but just in case you are interested in the pharmacology I thought I would discuss it. Abilify is a perfect example of the notion that doses are very different depending on the type of mood disorder.
Avatar n tn So have some patience and understand that your symptoms may not go away right away and that it might take some trial and error before your symptoms are somewhat under control. Whatever happens, I wish you the best.
Avatar n tn At one point I was on both Effexor and Abilify, then my doctor took me off the Effexor. I have done fine on Abilify alone - but that is me. Did your doctor put you on all 3 of these meds at once - or at different times, in response to symptoms you were having? I would speak with your M.D. at your next visit and tell him or her that you don't want to be on so much medication. See what he or she says. I always prefer to side with the doctor when it comes to this sort of thing.
Avatar m tn Went to docs with unrelated problems but in talking my anxiety was evident and she asked about depression and I told her I wasn't suicidal and no desire to hurt myself or anyone else just was having a difficult time seeing the good in anything. Everyday tasks seemed very hard to do. Zero motivation although i do function well enough to get thru my days. i have never taken antidepressants before I am 33 yo male. She recommended I try meds.
Avatar f tn //www.abilify.com/abilify/home/index.jsp . They also have some useful information on the disorder and how abilify works to help control moods. - it seems to have less side effects than some drugs of its type based on what I have read.
Avatar n tn You might want to ask your psychiatrist about Rozerem an FDA approved medication that works like melatonin to adjust the sleep cycle and is safe and non addictive. The two newly approved antipsychotics Saphris and Fanapt work like Abilify in that they are serotonin dopamine antagonists (a slightly different class of antipsychotics than the ones before) so they might all have activating properties but for full information go to the medication website and of course speak to your psychiatrist.
585414 tn?1288941302 This is a new antipsychotic in development that works in the same manner as Abilify (Serotonin Dopamine Antagonists), Fanapt and Saphris but since each person responds differently to each medication if accepted it should be another option for people: http://www.szmagazine.com/e107_plugins/content/content.php?content.
Avatar m tn Have also just went from taking cymbalta and abilify to the effexor and abilify, but went off the abilify because of the weight gain. Dr wanted me to try wellbutrin and go off the effexor, but don't think it was working. Now I'm really confused on what works. For a couple days of being off the wellbutrin and on 150 of effexor i fealt great. But 3 days later i feel horible again.
Avatar m tn I was also on hydro's and not taking those others and it has been more helpful than I can even say.
Avatar n tn Most of the drugs that cause weight gain do it by slowing metabolism and interfering with the serotonin in our digestive system, and also by giving us thoughts and urges we wouldn't naturally have. Remeron is the most notorious for causing people in general to want to eat, but all ssris are known for this as well. Drugs are just weird.
Avatar n tn The antipsychotics most likely to cause this are Clozaril and Zyprexa. The least is Abilify though of course it can and does happen. Diet regulation is the key. As I've posted that will not be a problem with the next generation antipsychotics because they are more specifically targeted to the receptors they need to work on.
Avatar m tn The medications the doctor gave me- ABILIFY and ZOLOFT aren’t working. I was going through serious highs and lows. I wanted something else, something without all the side effects. I was always interested in Medical Marijuana and so I took it upon myself to learn as much as I could about it. I hate putting things that aren’t natural into my body- aka prescription meds multiple times a day. I switched to HempPaste last week and I feel amazing! But I want to come off my prescriptions.
Avatar m tn She has previously been on Prozac and Effexor for depression and anxiety. In 2009 our oldest son (40) passed away. Since then her depression has gotten much worse. We move from SoCal to be nearer to our other son and grandkids 6 years ago. I had hoped that being nearer to our son and grandkids would be a source of joy for her. The grandkids help but the weather here is well known to cause depression. Our primary care physician referred her to a psychiatrist.
Avatar n tn As the puberty liked in it became unbearable, ocd, self injury behaviors we had no choice but to put him on medication, Prozac and abilify. It has worked for about 5 years but now we are struggling again. He is 19 and it’s really difficult to keep him interested in things he’s ocd seems to turned in to stubbornness.
603015 tn?1329862973 If you decide to take an MS then in my view and the lot of readings lamictal or abilify one is AC the other AP. Suit yourself, but they are the best and most recent.
Avatar n tn All of a sudden in 2009 meds quit working as effectively, dr added effexor and trazadone to my celexa and something I was taking for pain that increased serotonin levels, within 5 days I was hospitalized with serotonin syndrome. Horrific experience since i am in the medical field myself. The drs around here are not familiar with this disease so it has been difficult to treat. I have been trying different meds for the last 2 years now and after a few doctors have had no good results.
712802 tn?1274645485 What you experience may be quite different from what everyone has posted. You might take Abilify and find that you have no side effects and it helps you and you will continue to take it. You might find that you get side effects that you can't tolerate and then you will quit it. The only way to find out is by trying it.
Avatar f tn If you add wellbutrin it will likely limit your weight gain and is a pure antidepressant, but it can be stimulating and so it's theoretically possible it will increase your anxiety. Paxil is a difficult drug to stop taking, and once you've taken it because it seems to be stronger in its affinity for serotonin and choline receptors it's sometime difficult for other drugs to work.
Avatar m tn I am on 90 mg of Cymbalta and just started 15 mg of Abilify for depression. My doctor has titrated me up on the Abilify gradually. My question is for anyone who take 15 mg of Abilify for depression. Have you experienced any side effects? When you're depressed and trying to get your medications right it just isn't fun. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn s are thought to block the reabsorption (reuptake) of serotonin by certain nerve cells in the brain and this theoretically leaves more serotonin available. If you have low serotonin to begin with these medications will not work well or work for a while then stop working. Due to your symptoms, magnesium deficiency is the #1 suspect. Symptoms of magnesium deficiency are numerous but include anxiety, panic attacks, migranes, asthma, calcium build up (aortic stenosis is due to calcium build up).
Avatar f tn I have only started the Abilify so far on day 3 … I was supposed to start together but I dropped the pristiq bottle and pills fell on floor now because of contamination ocd I can’t take them and insurance won’t pay for a refill yet so doctor says just take the Abilify for now , I’m noticing it is helping me to change my behavior versus the ssri just kinda helped me manage my existing behaviors but never had courage or motivation to change my behaviors so I’m hoping that’s where Abilify will come
