Abilify and ocd treatment

Common Questions and Answers about Abilify and ocd treatment

abilify

Avatar f tn I don't know the history of your son's medications, obviously. I don't know if so many didn't work he ended up on Paxil (a high dose at that) and abilify (as mentioned above, a medication approved reluctantly by FDA and only for limited purposes for what I assume were good reasons). What I do know is these are two very difficult medications to take and to stop taking, and would be a very strange place to start for just OCD.
Avatar f tn I have only started the Abilify so far on day 3 … I was supposed to start together but I dropped the pristiq bottle and pills fell on floor now because of contamination ocd I can’t take them and insurance won’t pay for a refill yet so doctor says just take the Abilify for now , I’m noticing it is helping me to change my behavior versus the ssri just kinda helped me manage my existing behaviors but never had courage or motivation to change my behaviors so I’m hoping that’s where Abilify will come
8641508 tn?1399117307 I have been diagnosed with panic disorder, ocd, and as you guys with ocd know depression coincides. I am on 20 mg lexapro, 5 mg kolonopin, and 2.5 mg of abilify. I am struggling bad lately. my depression is starting up again, not severe enough to be hospitalized but is starting up. Im believing that everyone around me thinks im crazy i dont know why. I got in a fight with my sister yesterday and I started crying because I also got into a fight with my mom.
Avatar n tn I am on 80mg of Prozac and was on 2 mg of the Abilify. I was doing well for a few week and then it seemed to poop out on me again. So the Dr. upped my Abilify to 5 mg. I have been at that dose for week and I am feeling ton of anxiety, worse than before. Anyone have a similar experience, whether it has been with the same meds or different? I don't know if I should ask to be switched or hang in there a bit longer?
Avatar f tn It complely killed out the adderall effect unless that was the luvox. Thanx and yes nursegirl i am on all those meds plus abilify and synthroid. I have been diangnosed major depressive disorder, add, and now i guess OCD. All of the meds are basically new to me besides the adderall and wellbutrin. It is a psychiatrist that prescibes all of these. I dont have many other outlets for my anxiety or OCD besides these meds. To be honest being on all these worries me myself. I am 26.
Avatar m tn I'm currently prescribed on 100 mg of luvox and 10 mg of abilify. However, I've been mistreated by nearly everyone I met in the past 4 years in high school. Teachers, students, everyone. It can't be them, I'm thinking. It has to be me. As punishment, I want to make my OCD worse until I can barely control it. If I stop taking Luvox and Abilify, will I suffer some sort of neurological damage? Or will the only effect be that my OCD will become worse?
Avatar f tn hello! i have OCD about pregnancy and recently my doctor has put me on zoloft and respiridone. after a week or so, i started lactating so she decided to change my respiridone to abilify... i was just wondering whether zoloft of abilify causes breast enlargement because they are so much bigger and i guess they are making me more and more anxious. Thank you!
585414 tn?1288941302 Actually the person I know who has ocd and bipolar with psychotic features now takes Abilify and Lamictal and it keeps the symptoms relatively in check. We just all had the concern of 3 antipsychotics being prescribed to you at once which clearly is not a good thing but you had said you were getting that updated to one antipsychotic which was Seroquel which at a working dose would be effective for psychosis and mood stabilization.
Avatar n tn Tantrums are a common behaviour of children suffering from anxiety disorders (and OCD is one of the anxiety disorders). The usual treatment for anxiety disorders is intervention, therapy and possibly medication. It sounds as if your child psychiatrist has experience in this area. By the way, our child was placed on Prozac for a few months at six years of age (severe social anxiey disorder) and it did wonders.
712802 tn?1274645485 What you experience may be quite different from what everyone has posted. You might take Abilify and find that you have no side effects and it helps you and you will continue to take it. You might find that you get side effects that you can't tolerate and then you will quit it. The only way to find out is by trying it.
574118 tn?1305135284 He substituted tegretol with Abilify as my MS. I heard well of Abilify and I happen to have come across http://www.askdrjones.com/2005/02/14/ranking-the-mood-stabilizers/ . To tell you the truth I became happy because I know tegretol needs blood tests, etc…while abilify has a few side effects except some anxiety. I only became suspicious about its potency as a mood stabilizer. Otherwise why do pdocs recommend always one of the triads (lithium, depakote, tegretol) or lamictal lately.
Avatar n tn m back at 225 mg a day in two doses (150mg morning, 75 mg evening). And I take Abilify to enhance the effect. My opinion is that the Efexor is loosing some grip but I'm back in 'control', I hope. I exercise mindfulness, Taï-Chi and I'm seeing an acupuncturist every 14 days. Since he is working on the 'problem' too, it might even be that I'm taking a to high dose of Efexor.
802234 tn?1237830136 I would like for him to change meds, come off the Seroquel and maybe go on another drug (antidepressant such as Luvox) for his OCD. How long would it take for him to wean off Seroquel and start another drug? I feel since he started taking Seroquel in 2004, his eye problem has gotten worse and I would like him to come off the drug. I don't know if this will help with his eyes or not. Any suggestions/comments would be appreciated.
Avatar m tn t have that much progress, because I never committed to manage anxiety and ocd properly, by typical teen-age hostility, emotionality and heavy unsatisfaction, I also must admit I had a terrible job in taking proper care of myself, of my mental health. In 2 years, because of external factors (besides OCD), I cried and sobbed daily, was costantly touchy and self-absorbed and had huge anxiety.
Avatar n tn my heart races and Im becoming physically sick now. Im currently taking zoloft/abilify and adderall.. I dont know if I should generally be worried about this or its just my anxiety. Its starting to consume my days ..everyday.
Avatar m tn Then, about 2 ½ years ago I had a near-psychotic meltdown, mostly about the devil and evil spirits, and was diagnosed with OCD and prescribed Anafranil and Zyprexa, which helped with the irrational thinking and obsessive thoughts a little. Between now and then, I have been diagnosed with OCD, Social anxiety disorder, GAD, major depressive disorder, ADHD, and most recently, aspergers/high functioning autism.
400867 tn?1371753094 Hey all. So my doctor let me go back on Paxil because nothing else seems to work the same way. He has also prescribed Abilify for my horrible anxiety and OCD. Apparently, it's a medication for bipolar disorder or schizophrenia but he seems to think at the low dosage he prescribed (2 mg.) that it will help to "calm my brain down" and my OCD thoughts. The paxil is for my anxiety and I have Klonopin for my "freak out" times which are quite often lately.
1100992 tn?1262357216 How many of you have been on the same treatment for a long time? Like years? I was diagnosed a few months ago, and am finally starting to feel normal. I never knew normal. :) I'd like to stay on the meds long term, and I read on the abilify site that treatment shouldn't be longer than a year or so. What if something's working for you? Can't you just stay on it? Seems silly to me.
675316 tn?1234215095 i have major problems dealing with relationships and my kids. its like everything is a major problem even when i guess its not. i just can't cope. my mom says kick everybody out. but that really won't solve it all. i have major depression, bpd, generalized anxiety, and ocd. gonna start therapy soon. things gotta get better my bp is staying high.any advice is gladly welcome.
Avatar f tn The second doctor actually started a broad spectrum treatment. Mood disorder includes depression, mania, bipolar, and substance abuse. Abilify is indicated for depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and could have worked if you had taken it for some time. Please discuss in detail with each of your doctor. You need to make a change in the treatment because SSRI including celexa are not working. Take care!
Avatar m tn Hi, Im new here too and by no means an expert on OCD, but I ca relate to or understand everything you mentioned. Checking is a common obsession in OCD, and the searching the internet is a type of 'reassurance', which OCD sufferers frequntly seek out to resolve their anxiety.
Avatar f tn me on to help other anti depressant work. They also put me on luvox for OCD. i have heard good and bad things about these combos with adderall. I dont want them to counteract the drug. So any thoughts would be great. Thanks.
899491 tn?1243773627 I have not heard of antipsychotics being addictive but I do know Abilify is activating and can disrupt sleep. As well although its FDA approved for bipolar its primary use is as an antipsychotic so it may not be as effective as a standard mood stabilizer.

Avatar f tn A drug called propranolol can help with med related tremors. It sounds more like his meds aren't working. Use of Effexor is controversial as many psychiatrists say it helps, but the research is leaning towards it causing an escalation of episodes causing rapid cycling in people with bipolar. I was rapid cycling and on Wellbutrin. Once they removed the Wellbutrin the rapid cycling slowed down tremendously.
1041243 tn?1375230520 my dr added abilify to my long list of meds for ocd and anxiety, and now i'm freaked out cuz i'm not having panic attacks when i have obssesive scary thoughts. it's like i'm scared that i'm not scared. anyone ever expirienced this? any advice?
