Avatar f tn I was on abilify for 10 years but before that I was on amitriptyline 75 for about 2 years in which I gained 60 pounds. So after I started abilify, I only gained about 15 but I went off of abilify with nothing to replace it and I dropped 35 pounds in 2 months. Abilify just wasn't for me. I am on Prozac and Wellbutrin and klonopin and that is enough to keep me completely stabile. I actually have lost a total of 75 pounds in about 9 months, way too fast but had all kinds of tests are normal.

Avatar f tn I have only started the Abilify so far on day 3 … I was supposed to start together but I dropped the pristiq bottle and pills fell on floor now because of contamination ocd I can’t take them and insurance won’t pay for a refill yet so doctor says just take the Abilify for now , I’m noticing it is helping me to change my behavior versus the ssri just kinda helped me manage my existing behaviors but never had courage or motivation to change my behaviors so I’m hoping that’s where Abilify will come
407790 tn?1397761026 Thanks so much for answering. Yes, it is meant to help my ADs work better. I'm on Cymbalta (30 mg) and Wellbutrin (300 mg.) I also take Lamictal (200 mg) and Topamax (200 mg), the latter mostly to help me lose the weight I gained on Pristiq (I quit that a month ago and started taking Cymbalta instead.) I also take Adderall because I have narcolepsy. I know, quite a cocktail. I have been on just about every AD there is for the past 20 years.

Avatar m tn I want to know, when I go to the doctor and ask him to check me for diabetes risk, does he check for insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome too?
Avatar n tn You could feel them also diagnosed by a doctor. He has been to metabolic, neurologic, rheumotologic, and Infectious disease specialists. Knowbody knows what is wrong. He is unable to work out or exercise due to these problems. He is fatigued all the time, and gets arm weakness when he does anything with his upper body. We are at a loss and are not sure what to do. Any Ideas please help.
899491 tn?1243773627 A friend of mine had pre-diabetes from Abilify and he went on a healthy diet and lost 40 pounds and that passed. If someone needs general weight loss or diet advice their doctor can usually advise them. If it becomes severe and a medication change doesn't help it then its best to see a nutritionist. First find out what medication your psychiatrist will prescribe and what the risk of weight gain is and see from there.
Avatar n tn I am on Abilify 10mg..and have been for a while and I have no noticed any weight gain. Are you on any other meds? It may just depends on who you are.
Tbd I am on 20mg of Losartan and diagnosed with pre-metabolic syndrome. Anyone else in a similar shape and has some success tips for be healthy besides electronic coaching classes?
Tbd Losing weight is essential most of the time and doctors supervision is important for that. Metabolic syndrome is normally a result of being overweight and inactive. Both of those are often within our control to make better. I'm so glad to hear that you are working on this. Here's information on Metabolic Syndrome. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/metabolic-syndrome/symptoms-causes/syc-20351916 if you smoke, please quit. That is very important.
Avatar n tn The antipsychotics most likely to cause this are Clozaril and Zyprexa. The least is Abilify though of course it can and does happen. Diet regulation is the key. As I've posted that will not be a problem with the next generation antipsychotics because they are more specifically targeted to the receptors they need to work on.
Avatar f tn My doc put me on abilify yesterday and warned me that it can cause serious blood sugar problems. This scares me because I have a family history of diabetes. Can a healthier diet and excercise plan help offset this possible side effect, or does it just happen anyway, no matter what your diet? Also, is there any other things I need to be warned about or watch for while I start this new medication? I am already taking lamictal as well.
918275 tn?1254068752 Abilify caused my weight gain .
Avatar n tn Effectively balancing hormone metabolism is essential for better health and avoidance of the Metabolic Syndrome. It is advised and easy to test your body’s 2/16 estrogen metabolite ratio in order to see if you are in need of further hormone balance. A ratio of less than 2.0 indicates the need for support for estrogen metabolism.
Avatar f tn Hi, If you are referring to nortriptyline, this is a second-generation tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) used in the treatment of major depression, childhood nocturnal enuresis, chronic fatigue syndrome, and chronic pain or migraines. If it is bot helping, inform your doctor for proper management. A change of medication or shift in dosage my be indicated. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn I took Abilify and Effexor (seperately) as well, Abilify was the last drug aimed at controling my largely depressive BP. It made me feel blah, less deeply depressed, but it gave me the rare side effect of blurred vision! It was taking a dosage of Effexor which gave me my first flamingly manic episode and caused me to be rediagnosed from severe depression to BP.
Avatar n tn You mentioned you tried all the drugs in the lithium class - do you mean lamotrigine and depakote? I take lamotrigine and find it really helpful. You also don't mention the antipsychotics like seroquel, ziprexa, abilify, risperadone. You've probably taken them and just didn't list it, but if you haven't may be worth a shot. Abilify changed my life. Hands down. Prayer and meditation is good, as is deep breathing and guided relaxations.
Tbd Yes, it’s part of this group of indices we call metabolic syndrome.
712802 tn?1274645485 What you experience may be quite different from what everyone has posted. You might take Abilify and find that you have no side effects and it helps you and you will continue to take it. You might find that you get side effects that you can't tolerate and then you will quit it. The only way to find out is by trying it.
Avatar m tn But high triglycerides can raise your risk of heart disease and may be a sign of metabolic syndrome. 1310035 tn?1305621642 If the lab tech said something like "insulin resistant." Most doctors have stopped calling it insulin resistance and they refer to it an "metabolic syndrome." It has a few diagnostic indicators: elevated fasting glucose, elevated hemoglobin A1C, waist > 40" in males or >35" in females, decreased levels of HDL, etc. I don't remember the whole list. It is normally considered "pre-Type 2 Diabetes.
