abilify and irritability

Different people has different side effects. I take Abilify (its not Ambilify) and it hasn't caused any weight gain and helps with depression. Abilify has caused me to have akathisia (restless movements of legs/feet). I take propranolol for it and found that it also is used for anxiety without being a benzo. It is a beta blocker which is primarily used to lower blood pressure.

Once I reached the therapeutic dose of Lamictal, I stopped Abilify and immediately experienced rapid fluctuations between depression and mania and my therapist told me to go back on Abilify at a reduced 2.5 mg. In addition, since beginning Lamictal + Abilify I have consistently gained 40 pounds.... 10 of which were gained within the 2 weeks I restarted Abilify at 2.5 mg. As someone who has a history of body dysmorphia and eating disorders, I NEED a different treatment.

Hello. My name is Ed. I have Bipolar II. I was diagnosed in 2005 and stabilized with Lamictal and Abilify. However, I've never really gotten a handle on irritability. Although I've dealt with anxiety and depression, those have more or less been managed. But I still find myself having uncontrolled irritability, and I get crazy over things that wouldn't make a normal person crazy (chirping of car alarms, people whistling, other stupid stuff).

HI, I can totally relate to the elevated mania with the Abilify. I had a bad reaction to Paxil and had extreme anxiety and panic attacks with irritability so they put me on Seraquel. Was not the drug for me! After 4 days on the Seraquel it had the reverse effect similar to your Abilify experience and it made me very manic and constantly anxious. My Doctor then said try Adivan to get you back on a normal playing field and to deal with the Anxiety. It's been a miracle drug!

Abilify was just proven to treat the aggressiveness/irritability associated with autism spectrum disorders. ABA has been a Godsend for my son (he was dx as severely autistic at 26 months old, and boy oh boy have we had behavioral/aggression issues). That being said, when my son is on medication, he has weird reactions. Ibuprofen makes him crazy hyper (my daughter too). Steroids he is an absolute nightmare.

Actually Ativan is more for anxiety and Abilify is more for depression but it can also help with anxiety. This is common practice, trust in your doctor. Best wishes.

She takes 40mg BID - about 2 hours after she takes it in the morning, she gets really angry and agressive and goes through a screaming manic phase and ends it with a 1-2 hour nap. This has just recently started happening at night too. Please help or give some advise...

It is unlike normal or even PMS irritability. It comes on SO fast and I act before I can stop myself. I throw things, kick things, hit things. It is embarrassing and I am afraid of it happening in public. After the event, I can see how it was inappropriate and an over-reaction. I'm too old to behave like a 13 year old throwing a tantrum. I'm wondering why my bipolar disorder has evolved into this.

I just found out a friend has been on the medicine venlafaxine for the highest dosage and his psychiatrist put him on abilify too recently. What does this imply? He has schizophrenia? He's a psycho? Any thought would be appreciated!

his focus and drive are there, his anxiety and irritability are nearly gone and no melt downs in a long time. also, it's given him such a sense of personal accomplishment and has really built up his self-esteem. he's a much happier person. there are books and research out there showing the benefit to the autistic brain... but i will say i've also benefited a great deal internally from the practice.

if you bp then your more than ,.Ikey high and low is what bp is..the ablifi can make you mania even when its working..but you also need to be on something for deppreshion such as lamictail.....talk this over with ur pdoc..but yes most bi polars are on ore than 1 med...some takes yrs to get there =combo..i took ablifi it threw me into mania in 4 days...

What you experience may be quite different from what everyone has posted. You might take Abilify and find that you have no side effects and it helps you and you will continue to take it. You might find that you get side effects that you can't tolerate and then you will quit it. The only way to find out is by trying it.

I am on 90 mg of Cymbalta and just started 15 mg of Abilify for depression. My doctor has titrated me up on the Abilify gradually. My question is for anyone who take 15 mg of Abilify for depression. Have you experienced any side effects? When you're depressed and trying to get your medications right it just isn't fun. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I have only started the Abilify so far on day 3 … I was supposed to start together but I dropped the pristiq bottle and pills fell on floor now because of contamination ocd I can’t take them and insurance won’t pay for a refill yet so doctor says just take the Abilify for now , I’m noticing it is helping me to change my behavior versus the ssri just kinda helped me manage my existing behaviors but never had courage or motivation to change my behaviors so I’m hoping that’s where Abilify will come

Hi I have been on 5 mg of abilify and also klonopin since jan..09.Recently i have been having severe dizziness.,y ear hurt so wen to dr put me on antibotic...Abilify has helped my depression so much but im wondering f it would start causing dizziness after being on it since jan 20 09...

Hello, I took abilify for five years, One thing is that when you take ablilify it is added with another medication usually, and i lost all of my hair while taking it but not because of they abilify, it was from the depicote or what ever-eles i took, but after i got off the depecote, my hair grew back my hair is growing now, but if you havent took it very long you may be having other side effects like the shaking, i will say that dose go away and you get very much better..

Then, just as suddenly as this entire mess had started, it was over on day 5 when I went to work. I was completely normal again, happy and at ease. I stopped the Abilify again, convinced it was to blame. This days-long anxiety attack (or whatever it was) happened again a month later, and then again a month after that. Then, the next month, I found out I was pregnant. During the pregnancy I was moody and anxious, but could trace it to a source--i.e.

So, I get prescribed Vyvanse and nothing - just extreme tension and irritability. I see him again and he offers to subscribe me Lamictal for my "disorganized thoughts". Now, I am a case manager in the mental health field and he knows this, so he is aware that I know what the Lamictal is for. I still say, no oh no, and I get a prescription for Focalin. And it seems to help a bit with my memory and all. I look on the internet and explore Bipolar - thinking I have missed something.

And eventually the old paranoia kicked in, not to mention the irritability, temper outbursts, and spending sprees. Knew all to well it was time to get help.........again. I do have a pyschiatrist that I see every 3 months. Sometimes I would like to see him more often but he always says 3 months and is so booked it is just about impossible to get in to see him in between times. Again, thank you for your responses.
