abilify and insomnia

There is a connection with taking Abilify and acne .

Insomnia, mania, and mixed episodes drove me crazy for years. Seroquel was the drug that finally kicked the worst of it. I had been on Zyprexa, Risperdal, Abilify, & Geodon, as well as Lamictal and Lithium and countless sleep drugs and sedatives. Seroquel isn't perfect, but it is magic for me compared to all of the other drugs I've been on. We're now adding in some Tegretol to see if it can make things even better. My husband - also bipolar - takes Seroquel too.

When I was on Abilify although it was helpful I experienced some anxiety and agitation and insomnia. Some of those issues are not uncommon as Abilify unlike other antipsychotics instead of being sedating can often be activating. Is that some of what you are experiencing?

I just started Pristiq and Im also on ativan and abilify............wondering if anyone else has taken these meds together.I felt great after taking the pill last night now today im kinda scared and spacey feeling...any thoughts?

Monitoring that. Do all of these meds cause weight gain? Abilify was very activating for my son and caused insomnia. Did you have side effects initially that went away? It would likely be a better choice as seroquel is making him tired.

How long should it be before I can expect results? I took my first 2Mg pill yesterday and my second one today. I am on Cymbalta 60Mg and my doctor added this because of my sudden depression.

been doing well since the doc added abilify to my paxil...problem....terrible insomnia and i walk around like a zombie all day....tried coming off it but the anxiety and depression came back terribly...that is where i am now....just started taking my abilify again.....does anyone have any suggestions for me? a different med than abilify or a way to get a good nights sleep? i am desperate! please help me!

Actually Ativan is more for anxiety and Abilify is more for depression but it can also help with anxiety. This is common practice, trust in your doctor. Best wishes.

Hey I just got my Abilify today. My therapists recommended it to my Dr because of my mood swings. So hopefully that helps you and I. Time will tell. Good luck.

The drug lists both insomnia and somnolescence as side effects. In other words, sleep disturbance!! Rather than sleep settling. The absolute last thing I need is to be kept awake and feel agitated and so on. It would drive me more nuts than I am. Have been fairly at peace for some time now and risking a med like this sounds like a no brainer. I'd have to have no brain to say yes wouldn't I? Appreciate your honesty and accuracy.

I was the same way except without irritability; after two hours I was out like a light but then it suddenly became activating and I'm not sure why and then I had insomnia like crazy.

if you bp then your more than ,.Ikey high and low is what bp is..the ablifi can make you mania even when its working..but you also need to be on something for deppreshion such as lamictail.....talk this over with ur pdoc..but yes most bi polars are on ore than 1 med...some takes yrs to get there =combo..i took ablifi it threw me into mania in 4 days...

I also need Seroquel to sleep decently (have been an insomniac since childhood), and it would be the perfect medication for insomnia if not for the weight gain problem. To make things worse, a few years ago I was also on Abilify. I was fat and happy for a while there. When the doctor changed & took me off the Abilify, I was astonished that I lost about 20 pounds without changing anything.

You might want to ask your psychiatrist about Rozerem an FDA approved medication that works like melatonin to adjust the sleep cycle and is safe and non addictive. The two newly approved antipsychotics Saphris and Fanapt work like Abilify in that they are serotonin dopamine antagonists (a slightly different class of antipsychotics than the ones before) so they might all have activating properties but for full information go to the medication website and of course speak to your psychiatrist.

I am now on 20 mg of lexapro and 5 mg of abilify. The abilify has not kicked in yet, I really do not get a lot of sleep maybe 5 hours at the most as you see what time it is. Does anyone out there know if abilify really does work, I have only been on it 4 days and feels like it has not kicked in. Please help. Thanks to all.

Hi No two take the same meds or the same doses. People keep experimenting with their pdocs until they hit a combo that works. The no of BP meds is large, they vary from mood stabilizers, to antipsychotics, to antidepressants to tranquilizers, and you can find patients taking a combination of them all. The strange thing, take your abilify for example, for some is irritating causes insomnia and agitation as it's supposedly activating but for others make them tired.

re dealing with a competent psychiatrist, I would take his suggestion and try Abilify to control your symptoms and especially to prevent manic episodes. If you're that concerned, a second opinion is definitely an option. Ultimately, however, the decision is yours. Just remember that your well being is the issue here and that in order to have the best quality of life possible it is oftentimes better to put ourselves into the hands of others.

m back at 225 mg a day in two doses (150mg morning, 75 mg evening). And I take Abilify to enhance the effect. My opinion is that the Efexor is loosing some grip but I'm back in 'control', I hope. I exercise mindfulness, Taï-Chi and I'm seeing an acupuncturist every 14 days. Since he is working on the 'problem' too, it might even be that I'm taking a to high dose of Efexor.

Medicine isnt helping me and i never thought it would. I'm on abilify 20mg and nothing is happening. i was on stratera for a while for adhd and bipolar but im not bipolar im depressed. the doctors say i have some sort of mood disorer but havent picked it out yet. Im pining it on depression and depression alone. i have insomnia. i dont hurt myself nor want to. I am unhappy, and medicines arent going to fix that. i think theyre all crazy. whatever. advice would be nice.

What you experience may be quite different from what everyone has posted. You might take Abilify and find that you have no side effects and it helps you and you will continue to take it. You might find that you get side effects that you can't tolerate and then you will quit it. The only way to find out is by trying it.

Hey all. So my doctor let me go back on Paxil because nothing else seems to work the same way. He has also prescribed Abilify for my horrible anxiety and OCD. Apparently, it's a medication for bipolar disorder or schizophrenia but he seems to think at the low dosage he prescribed (2 mg.) that it will help to "calm my brain down" and my OCD thoughts. The paxil is for my anxiety and I have Klonopin for my "freak out" times which are quite often lately.

s causing me high anxiety and not being able to sleep (insomnia) I started a week ago on 50mg now upped to 100mg 2 days ago iv had zopiclone on and off since June when all this anxiety started and now my doctor won't prescribe me any more but was just wondering if a benzo will help with the sleep issue until the sertraline kick in and work for me, iv been on sertraline in August for 3 week it worked for 5 days then bang high anxiety and I gave up on them so now I'm trying it for the 2n

I am on 90 mg of Cymbalta and just started 15 mg of Abilify for depression. My doctor has titrated me up on the Abilify gradually. My question is for anyone who take 15 mg of Abilify for depression. Have you experienced any side effects? When you're depressed and trying to get your medications right it just isn't fun. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I have only started the Abilify so far on day 3 … I was supposed to start together but I dropped the pristiq bottle and pills fell on floor now because of contamination ocd I can’t take them and insurance won’t pay for a refill yet so doctor says just take the Abilify for now , I’m noticing it is helping me to change my behavior versus the ssri just kinda helped me manage my existing behaviors but never had courage or motivation to change my behaviors so I’m hoping that’s where Abilify will come
