abilify

Avatar f tn Hi everyone, My husband has been taking Risperdal for about 3 months now and he is complaining about weight gain. Indeed he gained some weight, but he is so thin that it's hard to notice. For now I'm trying to keep our healthy diet as it has always been and keep telling him to do some exercise, I do Yoga and Biking...
Avatar f tn My pdoc is adding Abilify at bedtime, and I am quite apprehensive about this combination. Can anyone shed any light on this or have any experience with it? I want to get well! Thank you, and may you all be well.
Avatar f tn Hi all, I am severely depressed & have been taking Prozac for a month now & my doc suggested Abilify to add. I had already put on 30lbs from lexapro, which is part of becoming depressed again. I have been on the Abilify for 6days now & can tell it is having a positive impact on me. I have had enough motivation to work out the past two days & I am really watching what I'm eating. Has anyone here had success with losing weight on Abilify & prozac?
1305767 tn?1361192676 Just told me to exercise, and eat better. Gave me Abilify instead of that Seroquel and told me to come back in two weeks.
Avatar f tn I first took Geodon. As I have been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder which was originally thought to be schizophrenia, I experience psychosis all the time regardless of my mood so I take antipsychotics for the psychotic aspect of my illness. Geodon worked better for my positive (hallucinations, delusions, paranoia, etc.) symptoms and not so great for my negative (loss of pleasure, lack of affect, lack of motivation, etc.) symptoms. Abilify works better for my negative symptoms.
Avatar f tn I have BPII and decided after 8 yrs and extra 15lbs. on Abilify, to go off. Pdoc agreed and started weaning me off while titrating me up on Lamictal. I’m only on 25mg. Go up to 50mg in another week. Down to approx 1.5mg Abilify now. Feel HORRIBLE. Also on Zoloft 100mg. Having racing thoughts, anxiety, mood swings, bone pain and sweats. From what I’ve read, this is Abilify withdrawal. Do I just have to feel awful until Lamictal dose is high enough to be therapeutic? Thanks!!
5377229 tn?1367102940 Sister having horrible reactions during withdrawl from cymbalta and abilify. What can she do to help herself? She w as taken off both on Wednesday and put on prozac. Can she use tylenol for the headache? Someone told her it is not safe to do. Another person suggested melatonin. Is that safe? She is bi polar and has gained over 100 lbs on these meds over the last 6 years. This is ridiculous! Will she gain on prozac also? What is wrong with these psychiatrists, anyway?
497950 tn?1255863927 thanks for all the responses! I saw my psychiatrist today and I asked for zyprexa (stupid me) my insurance barely covers it. It still costs me $100 after insurance. I don't think there is any way around the expensive part. I am going to ask for Seroquel or Geodon next week when I see him. I called my insurance and those are the cheapest ones for me. I am just not going to worry about the weight gain and just eat well and exercise.
712802 tn?1274645485 What you experience may be quite different from what everyone has posted. You might take Abilify and find that you have no side effects and it helps you and you will continue to take it. You might find that you get side effects that you can't tolerate and then you will quit it. The only way to find out is by trying it.
Avatar m tn I am on 90 mg of Cymbalta and just started 15 mg of Abilify for depression. My doctor has titrated me up on the Abilify gradually. My question is for anyone who take 15 mg of Abilify for depression. Have you experienced any side effects? When you're depressed and trying to get your medications right it just isn't fun. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I have only started the Abilify so far on day 3 … I was supposed to start together but I dropped the pristiq bottle and pills fell on floor now because of contamination ocd I can’t take them and insurance won’t pay for a refill yet so doctor says just take the Abilify for now , I’m noticing it is helping me to change my behavior versus the ssri just kinda helped me manage my existing behaviors but never had courage or motivation to change my behaviors so I’m hoping that’s where Abilify will come
Avatar f tn Hi I have been on 5 mg of abilify and also klonopin since jan..09.Recently i have been having severe dizziness.,y ear hurt so wen to dr put me on antibotic...Abilify has helped my depression so much but im wondering f it would start causing dizziness after being on it since jan 20 09...
1565420 tn?1304572548 Hello, I took abilify for five years, One thing is that when you take ablilify it is added with another medication usually, and i lost all of my hair while taking it but not because of they abilify, it was from the depicote or what ever-eles i took, but after i got off the depecote, my hair grew back my hair is growing now, but if you havent took it very long you may be having other side effects like the shaking, i will say that dose go away and you get very much better..
Avatar n tn I tried to stop taking zoloft and abilify about three months ago. I tapered off the zoloft and stopped the abilify cold turkey, per doctor's advice. I had mild side effects for the first month and then totally crashed. Needless to say, I called my doctor in desperation and was represcribed both medications. I feel much better, but am still very serious about stopping the medications sooner than later.
Avatar n tn There is a connection with taking Abilify and acne .
526311 tn?1229286330 s advised only to be taken in the morning after breakfest.and to do so light exercise or meditation to help burn down that excessive energy as your mind and body tries to draw focus earlier on the day rather then later. I admittedly had to take zoplicone for like 2 months when i first got put on abilify. But Valerian works wonders too and you can get that cheap & strong at any chinese tea store in the form of sleep tea. I'd blend it with a honey & camonile tea for flavour.
Avatar f tn Hi I am also on methadone and Abilify and I think it is affecting the effects of the methadone let me know if you found anything out my email is mafiia.mii.
1134609 tn?1269272200 Every atypical antipsychotic has the potential of metabolic changes that can cause weight gain and on ocassion diabetes but if you eat a sensible diet and exercise that can be kept under control (that also includes the second issue, a person I knew developed pre-diabetes from Abilify and through weight loss, proper dieting and exercise and following up with his doctor was able to keep this in check).
16773127 tn?1451336964 I also need Seroquel to sleep decently (have been an insomniac since childhood), and it would be the perfect medication for insomnia if not for the weight gain problem. To make things worse, a few years ago I was also on Abilify. I was fat and happy for a while there. When the doctor changed & took me off the Abilify, I was astonished that I lost about 20 pounds without changing anything.
Avatar f tn Don't know what the doc is thinking here, and by that I mean the doc who responded to your question. For one thing, he never asked about using anti-depressants if you're truly bi-polar. Now, if this is just the oh so popular bipolar 2 or 3 or 100 that pharmaceutical companies invented, then okay, but if you're truly bipolar, you're on the wrong meds altogether.
1258608 tn?1269552597 Take plenty of fish oil and b complex , exercise! Get a healthy diet. Better yet talk to your doc. MAybe he needs to adjust or change youer meds.
603543 tn?1255294450 Did you ask your pharmacist if abilify and ambien and any other meds you might be taking, including OTC meds, might be interacting to cause you to feel like this? Sometimes pharmacists know more about adverse drug interactions than dr's. Just a thought.
Avatar f tn Meds though are 60% of the fight the other 40% is learning to manage your condition. Sleep hygiene, exercise, meditation, and good food are key. No one I know does stellar at all of them, but even modest gains are worth it. If you have to pick one - exercise. Preferably to get the heart rate up, but even just walking helps. It raises endorphine levels, and helps stabilize brain chemicals. The second if he is having anxiety is meditation.
Avatar f tn Are you saying you were put on Abilify before you were put on Celexa? Because if you've only been on Celexa a few days, Abilify wouldn't be appropriate. It's only a last resort medication because of its side effect profile and because it isn't known to work by itself, only in combination with another med. If, for example, you have depression, and you're on medication and its helping but not quite enough and you've tried everything else, that's what Abilify is for.
