Common Questions and Answers about Abdominal pain upper right quadrant

pain

Avatar f tn The liver, stomach, gallbladder, pancreas and lung disease can all radiate pain in the upper right quadrant. Upper right quadrant pain should not be ignored, since it can indicate serious disease. Make an appointment to see your gastroenterologist to diagnose the cause of the pain. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I've been dealing with upper rt. quadrant abdominal pain for over a month now. I burp a lot and feel nauseated quite a bit of the time. My DO suggested an abdominal u/s (which was negative except for a gallbladder polyp) and a HIDA scan (which was also normal at 47% ejection fraction). I am unable to eat most foods, not just fatty foods, and I've lost 10 pounds already. I need to know where to go next.
Avatar n tn yet my right upper quadrant and abdominal pain has worsened and burns and radiates to my back...very uncomfortable..hard to sit..sleep...bend over....if this isnt gallbladder...which i believe it is...what else could be going on?
Avatar n tn Besides the liver, the pancreas stretches from the right upper to left upper quadrant and the pain is usually felt deep as your describing. Ask your Dr. to check for pancreatitis. Stomach issues also cause URQ pain such as Gastritis, Peptic Ulcers, and Gastroenteritis. Ask for an H-Pilory breath test to rule that out. Are there any other symptoms other than pain? Do you experience nausea ? Does it get worse with eating? A little more description will help rule out things.
Avatar m tn I have been experiencing pain in the upper right quadrant of my abdomen for sometime now. It only hurts to touch...for example, when my doctor asks me to inhale and presses (when I am lying on my back) it hurts to touch. In fact it was during a physical that I discovered the issue. Since then I have had blood tests (for liver function and everything else), I have had a ultrasound and a CT scan. All of them came back clear or normal.
Avatar f tn nearly a month ago, I started having the same pain in my upper right quadrant which radiates to below my right shoulder blade. I had a CAT scan this past week after my doctor suspected my gallbladder yet again. Results: NOTHING except that I still have a small hiatal hernia and an accessory spleen. Neither one explains my pain. She then ordered bloodwork which is not back yet. The pain is accompanied by bloating, indigestion, tenderness, slight nausea, loss of appetite (at times).
Avatar n tn Hello I have been having experiencing right back pain that proceeds to the right front abdomin area. It is on line of both lower and upper quadrant area on the right side. The pain comes and goes but is very severe when it happens. I had a urinalysis done that came back fine, blood drawn (waiting for results), and the doctor wants me to get a ct scan done but without insurance thats impossible at this time. Any ideas or helpful suggestions?
Avatar m tn A year or so later I was given a capsule endoscopy and they thought they saw something in the photos it took so I was referred to a doctor to do a double balloon enteroscopy retrograde. Unfortunately this too came back normal and afterwards I had moderate lower right side abdominal pain.
711171 tn?1245941848 Then in about October/ November of I started having abdominal pain in the right upper quadrant which shoots up into my right shoulder. I had my gallbladder out in 2000, so I knew it wasn't that. I have had every scan, blood test, ultrasound known to man. I was referred to a doctor at MUSC that specializes in digestive diseases. I have been going down there for over a year now and still have no answers.
Avatar f tn Hello I am having intense pain in the right quadrant of my upper abdomen. What could this be?
Avatar f tn For two years now I am suffering a dull, sometimes pulsating, pain in the abdominal R quadrant. I feel tas if there is SOMETHING inside. My abdomen is growing- a little- especially in the R side. It hurts all day and night, I even dream with this pain. It even hurts when I let my arm lay on top of the area when I am resting! Every morning when I wake up... the pain is there.
Avatar f tn There are numerous causes of right lower quadrant abdominal pain, of varying levels of severity. These include appendicitis, mesenteric adenitis, ileitis (e.g., Crohn's), colitis, kidney stones, kidney infection, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, ovarian cyst, ovarian torsion, ectopic pregnancy, pelvic inflammatory disease, hernia, and/or cancer. You should see your doctor, as proper diagnosis depends upon clinical history, physical examination, and laboratory and/or imaging tests.
Avatar n tn When leaving the hospital I would get this awful pain in my right upper quadrant, it felt like someone was squeezing my insides. No, 9 months later I get it off and on if I lay on my right side for too long at night, I also occasionally get it laying on my left side. It starts with a sensation of cold water being poored on the right or left upper quadrant of my abdomen then slowly progresses into the squeezing pain until I switch sides. Any ideas?

Avatar n tn I developed the pain at age 17 and have gone though dozens of doctors and dozens of diagnosis and five surgeries. Nothing has helped. I suffer from pain in my upper right quadrant of my abdomen, and when I eat most foods, I either throw up, or suffer from diarrhea, I have lost too much weight, 75 pounds in a few months, and am tired of not being able to eat. I do not have gallstones because they have taken out my gall bladder as well as my appendix.
Avatar m tn Always after defecation, I feel like something is stuck in my rectum. Five months ago I went to the ER with acute right lower quadrant pain near the appendix with the pain reflecting right in my back. Normal bloodwork, plain abdominal x-ray showed excessive intestinal gas. Pain continued for several days and then nausea came also. I couldn't eat anything because everything made me have symptoms.
Avatar m tn I'm 27 years old and have been suffering from upper right quadrant abdominal pain since i was 15yrs old. There is a knot/lump right under my ribs its been about the same size since the pain started 12 yrs ago. When the knot hurts it also hurt in about the same spot of my back. The knot is about the size of a dime, when it hurts it feels like the muscle is being twisted and burns, similar to cramp and my back hurts in the same spot and feels like it needs to be poped.
Avatar f tn Since Dec. 29th, I have been experiencing pain in the upper right quadrant of my abdomen. The pain extends around my ribcage and goes straight up the right side of my back, to my shoulder blades. The pain sharpens after meals that are particularly fatty or greasy. I've also experienced nausea (though no vomiting) & constipation (though my GP claims that my pain killers are the cause of that).
Avatar f tn It was shortly after i increased my fiber intake that i started with the upper right quadrant pain. Since i started this diet i have not had any sweets or high fatty foods but i have increased my fruits and veggies. I have lost 12 pounds since started this diet and walking but i now have this upper abdominal discomfort.
Avatar f tn i have a pain in my upper right quadrant, it feels like right below my ribs. and when i get this pain it's usually right after eating or especially when its really greasy foods. now i've been having these pains off and on for a while, almost a year. and when it gets too uncomfortable at times, i massage the area, which relieves it alittle, but never completely goes away. when i feel around, i've noticed little lumps, and when i apply pressure, it pains right on the lump.
Avatar m tn I've been suffering from chronic upper right quadrant discomfort/pain for the last 6 months. I am a 20 year old male, nonsmoker and in shape. The pain would initially only occur after a weekend of drinking alcohol, where the next day I would wake up with pain at the bottom of my ribcage that spread to my middle and upper back, all only on the right side.
Avatar m tn During the past 5 weeks I have felt some discomfort in the right upper quadrant , sometimes radiating to the lower back. It can be defined as a dull , daily recurrence , which depends on the time (it is almost nonexistent in the early hours of the day and becomes more noticeable during the evening) and movement (i tend to notice it more when I'm walking or moving because its like there is something there thats moving ) .
Avatar n tn last night while i was making the post i felt a little 2/10 pain in my upper abdominal left quadrant. thank you thank you thank you!
Avatar m tn Long story short about five months ago I started experiencing diarrhea multiple times a day (sometimes yellow, oily, foamy, sorry tmi.) also upper left side abdominal pain radiating into my back. I went to my family doctor who put me on Prilosec and said acid reflux, still issues so met with GI who did an upper endoscopy which came back good. Ended up in the ER one night due to the pain but they only did bloods and only thing elevated was my Albumin.
