Abdominal hysterectomy recovery time

Common Questions and Answers about Abdominal hysterectomy recovery time

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn I also had a abdominal hysterectomy on the 13th of August, with a lot f bleeding and pain afterwards. My hemoglobin was tested and it was low. I then was sent for a catscan to find out that I have hematoma. That is all I was told. Now I am in pain and wondering when it is supposed to get better?
Avatar f tn The old-fashioned method is called a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy, or TAH, meaning the work is done through an abdominal incision. Recovery time is easily 6 to 8 weeks. A Total Vaginal Hysterectomy (TVH) means the uterus and cervix are removed through the vagina. A laparascope is used through tiny incisions in the abdomen to release the structures that hold the uterus in place. Since there is no major incision to deal with, recovery is half the time of the abdominal surgery.
Avatar f tn Hello Ladies, I almost feel guilty for asking this question after some of the entries from today. My heart goes out to each and everyone of you!!!! My question is about recovery time. Those of you who know me know that I had a tumor removed and a total hysterectomy with "all-clear" for cancer two weeks ago tomorrow. You all have figured out I'm not a very patient person when it comes to myself, but, hey, it's been two weeks.
550018 tn?1264190965 Ladies, I'm having a c-section to deliver my baby and my 2nd look surgery at the same time (ovca stg 1c DX 07/08). A few months later I'm having a full hysterectomy (they don't want to do it during the c-section due to the blood flow damaging the tissue sampling procedures). Worried about the increase in scar tissue and recovery period after these two surgeries so close together. Does recovery ever get any easier after 2nd/3rd abdominal surgery or do you find that it gets worse?
Avatar n tn Just simply anting to know the average recovery time for having your ovaries removed. Not a hystorectomy, or ovarian cysts. Only the ovaries.
Avatar m tn Can you say why you need a hysterectomy? What kind of surgery are you having. Will it be a complete hysterectomy? Sorry for all the questions but the more we know the better we can help you. I did'nt gain any weight after my surgery. Make sure you eat well and exercise. You'll need 6 weeks of recovery time. That means no heavy lifting, no stairsno sex and plenty of rest. You may need hormones if you have hot flashes or mood swings, this is something you can discuss with your Dr.
Avatar f tn And the way your hysterectomy was done would be important for guidance in terms of recovery time and if they did anything else such as any bladder work which is not uncommon during hysterectomy surgery. Anyway, I'd give your doctor a call. But lifting is a no no for a while. Exercising is good to do starting slow especially walking or whatever cardio you like. And in terms of abdominal crunches, has it been 4 to 6 weeks?
Avatar f tn I don't know the expected recovery time for this procedure but I would think a week or two. Have you gotten the results yet? Has the swelling improved at all?
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever had a hysterectomy that started out laparoscopic then went to abdominal? Do you have any advice for recovery ? Tips? Heads up?
Avatar f tn I am 27, and am having a bilateral ovary removal and radical hysterectomy in a few weeks. (Due to various problems but mainly huge production of testosterone.Possible tumor unseen by testing) Anyway, I would like to know all of the ins and outs of post op recovery and etc. I am already on estrogen since I don't produce much. I recently (8-12 weeks ago) had my appendix removed laproscopically (sp?) will the pain be like that pain??? I am a stay at home mom to a HYPER!! ADHD 4 year old son.
Avatar n tn I have heard that recovery time from abdominal hysterectomy can be anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks. Which means I will have to take a leave of absence from work. When I weigh the risks against my current condition, it still seems hopeful. I will do whatever it takes to live free of this pain and discomfort. Even if it is a radical option. Funny thing is, 10 years ago I had a hunch that I wouldn't be able to bear children when I got older.
Avatar n tn I think it takes time to heal after a rectocele surgery. I think you're coming along fine. Your surgery was in Oct, how do you feel now? I just has the surgery on the 15th of Decemeber......healing is taking longer than I expected, but I'm doing okay. Is your life back to normal? I'm wondering if I'll ever feel "normal" again.
Avatar m tn I am so fed up with insurance companies they just make me sick thinking that they know best. I had a total abdominal hysterectomy (Uterus, tubes, ovaries) on June 28. At the same time they removed a 20lb 30 cm ovarian cyst that had adhesions attached to intestines and right kidney. On June 29 I received a call in the hospital from my std insurance company...needless to say I wasn't in form to return the call immediately. On June 30 they wanted to discharge me from the hospital.
Avatar f tn If I have a fibroid in the lining of my uterus and calcification of the uterus wall.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, A bit of background...I have a 7-8cm cyst on my left ovary. CA125 of 10, ultrasound shows no sign of a malignancy, so they are not too concerned about that. Dr. I was seeing wasn't confident in doing a cyst this size laparoscopically so he referred me to another Dr who is apparently an "expert" in removing large cysts like this by "bagging" it and removing it that way through the tiny incision instead of having open surgery.
Avatar f tn Tiredness was my worst symptom!! But you defintely need to take it easy..unfortunately I had 3 surgeries 2 with the hysterectomy and 1 a week later but my incision took 8-10 weeks to heal...the norm is 4-6 but I know the insides need to heal alot longer..just when you feel good and do too much than you realize your quite not there yet..so please take this time to recover rather than end up doing something that can cause more damage..the Doctor will give you the clearance to exercise again..
Avatar f tn Thank you so much. I relied heavily on the site when I had my hysterectomy. The recovery was not like the doctors told me, but was right on from what I read on this website ... I appreciate the support ....
647397 tn?1307056615 I am with Cherie, are the alternatives working? have you had a TVUS to check them? I am home recuperating from double surgery, one of which was a total abdominal hysterectomy. I am very happied I had mine, but it is major surgery. If you don't need it, then great, but if you do need it, just be informed about the surgery and recovery and you should be fine. I also hope all goes well with you!
Avatar f tn s eleven days post op with a hysterectomy, ovary and tube removal, and a sacrocolpopexy through the davinci robotic laparoscopic method. I returned to work yesterday as an accountant and worked for six hours. Lots of abdominal discomfort last night, some pressure, and what appeared to be some blood in my urine (pinkish color). My family thinks I'm pushing it. What do you think.
1043568 tn?1253450188 I am 54 years old and I was still pretty regular before the Tamoxifen. My gynecologist is recommending that I get a radical (abdominal) hysterectomy since I am still having periods. I had a D&C last year and had a benign polyp removed. Just had a trans-vaginal ultrasound 2 weeks ago and everything was fine.
