Common Questions and Answers about Abdominal hysterectomy healing time

hysterectomy

Hi I had total abdominal hysterectomy on 1242006. Had staples removed 1 week later. Since i have in center of new incision a cross over my old verticle c-section scar a 2 inch diameter sore that is not healing. I am going to wound clinic but nothing. It has puss and hurts. It has aweful odor too. Smells up clothes and room when husband changes bandage. Should my doctor be doing more? They are putting something called silver on it and a bandage every 4-5 days and that is it.
One new technology that didnt exist for your mom , is called the DaVinci Robotic assisted hysterectomy its the highest tech way to get a hyster..leaves less scaring lowers healing time and allows for extreamly precise incisions so small that would have been almost impossible for surgeon without,,,,it is the mthod I had for my hysterectomy...
I am schedule to have a hysterectomy in a couple weeks, and my concern is will my stomach go back to normal? Will I gain weight? Should I diet during recovery. Can't afford to buy new clothing right now... Will my sex life remain exciting?
So how long of a recovery time / and healing time am I looking at? Does this mean my belly will bet even bigger, weaker and more bulgy???
I had a laparoscopic supracerival hysterectomy. The time healing was great, but there was a complication. If you are NOT having your cervix removed, you may still have periods. My cervix is still intact and some of the uterus was left behind resulting in all that area not properly sealed up. So, although the odds are against it, I highly recommend you confirm your doctor has Laparascopic experience, a lot of it at that, and all your questions are answered in terms you can understand.
I am 3 wks post-op complete abdominal hysterectomy related to severe endometriosis. I was doing well able to perform light housework, grocery shop with assistance with lifting and standing up straight. Now I have severe abdominal pain approximately 2 inches above my incision site when walking. At times I can not even get my clothes down out of the closet and have severe pain when using the bathroom. I have seen a doctor twice already this week.
I'm taking probiotics on a daily basis, eat a high fiber diet to help with my stool movement but regardless of my lifestyle I need to take a laxative from time to time since the gas pains get very uncomfortable to walk around, take the stairs or exercise and I feel very sensitive on my left side. I'm trying to be patient about this healing but I don't want to go too long with this pain until something gets worse. Please give me guidance on what next steps to take.
I am a 36 year old mom of 5 who Just had a total abdominal hysterectomy on Oct 9th . I still have my ovaries but that is it. I wasn't Planing on having it that way it was hopfully going to be vaginally and laproscopic, but once they got in there I was Missing part of my cervix and things just changed. So instead of losing just the uterus ..I lost all except the ovaries. SO NOW WHAT !!! LOL... I so was not prepared for this long of a healing process ..is it really 6-8 weeks?
I am going to be having an abdominal hysterectomy very soon .Are there any benefits to it. I am having spotting, I have a very large cysts on my ovary and I am in a good amount of pain everyday.. Dr is removing everything. I am 49 and post menopausal. I have had many ultrasounds D&C biopsy and CA125 blood test. Abnormal bleeding from time to time. Enough is enough and this has only been going on for 6 months. Other than that paps are always normal but this cysts thing is driving me mad..
If any ladies have had an abdominal hysterectomy, i'd love to know what i need to get before surgery. I have heard both yes and no to abdominal binders, Dr says it is up to me if i want one or not. Should i get anything else special to make my recovery at home easier on me and my family?
Started having pains during intercourse and bleeding about 2 1/2 months ago. Had a polyp removed. Waited the healing time. Still having the pain. Went other day to get ultrasound to check ovaries. Those are ok. Dr said my bowel was dilated and to keep eye on it. It was suggested by tech I might have endo on my bowel. I am still having pain and want to know what it is from and to get it fixed. I thought after hyst. my problems would go away. I was wrong.
Give yourself time to heal - 3 days post op is really not a lot of time for recovering from major surgery such as a hysterectomy. I had a complete hysterectomy in 1997. I would say my post op pain started to subside about 5 days or so post op, but I definitely noticed a difference in pain level (to the better) after I had my staples removed (if I remember correctly, that was done about a week or week and a half after surgery).
However I ask that a total hysterectomy be done, The total abdominal hysterectomy was three weeks ago, Before the operation I had trouble controling my water works and that seemed to improve after the operation, now I am having a lot of pain and presser in my lower belly and my water is just running out of me. I have no sensation of having to pee, if I roll over in bed it just runs out or stand up.I am also again having pain in my tailbone..It just seems to hurt when I set, The question is...

I am 35 years old and I don't know what to expect. I had an abdominal hysterectomy due to cervical cancer. I am cancer free!!
May will be 2 years since I had my hysterectomy with ovary removal. They took everything. I had stage 4 endo. I did 6 months of lupron. Now I'm having lower right cramping, almost stabbing pain at times. I tend to have a little spotting every now and then. I have been to the dr and she told me it was bc they took my ovaries, and thats why i have the cramping. Now I'm not a dr. at all. But does that make any sense what so ever?
I had a hysterectomy in Oct. 2005. About 2 weeks after that, I started having a lot of problems. Just wondering if it was coming from the surgery. Heart beats extremely fast, can't think or concentrate, real dizzy, can't focus on daily chores, headache's, left arm and leg goes to sleep, body tremors, joints ache, blurred vision, jaws chatter like I am cold, can't remember. I never had any of this before the surgery and the Dr's can't figure out whats wrong. One Dr said I have a thyroid problem.
Had colon resection last February, continued having left lower abd. pain, gyn did total hysterectomy in July due to endometriosis. Also, multiple cysts with one that they thought at the time was a neoplasm. Initially I had a reduction in pain. Since surgery have had more problems with constipation, bloating, pain in Left lower abd. as well as pain in same area on my back. Had colonscopy showed no further issues in the colon. Also, had CT scan which showed a cystic structure 2.
I had a partial hysterectomy on 1/13/05..because i was experiencing bleeding that lasted 2-3 weeks at a time..not that it was heavy all the time or that i hurt constantly..but my emotions and moods were one big roller coaster... i couldnt take birth control pills to control it because i have Raynaulds Syndrome.. and auto-immune disease which is increased if you take hormones such as estrogen. I had a thermal ablation surgery done a few months prior to my hyst but it only made things worse.
My friend suggested lemon juice (straight from the lemon) and warm water mixed-I squeezed the lemon into the glass and it seems to be healing-if you read about lemon juice it is a natural healer-I have no problem going to the bathroom but it is the pain during the process-I also have light tinted blood coming from my rectum and my vaginabut it only appears after going to the bathroom-I am assuming that I am just healing and will take soome time.
Hello everyone, I had a partial hysterectomy about 8 years ago. I noticed everytime I have sex with my boyfriend, my vagina smells different. I douche and I take warm baths. I douche maybe once or twice a month. I am wondering if I am having this odor because I don't have a menustration anymore. Before I had the partial hysterctomy I never had a problem with having a vaginal odor. I went to the doctor my pap test are fine. Do I need to douche more? Please Help! Thank You!
I am going into my 8th years post-hysterectomy (radical) and fight all the time to stay balanced hormonally so that the symptoms don't get the best of me.

I figured it would be a tough one. I'm getting an abdominal hysterectomy which is a little longer to recup. I am getting my uterus and ovaries both taken out. The doctor said that I have grapefruit size complex cysts on both ovaries. I guess the only good thing is that I won't have a monthly period. Now, I will graduate to hot flashes and night sweats--hope I get good pills so that they won't be too frequent.
I have a total abdominal hysterectomy (tubes and ovaries, too) scheduled for 06/27/2007. I have had endo all my grown life. 5 laproscopy w/ laser surgeries later; we've decided it's time to end this. I am commited to this being my last surgery and being able to move on with my life. I am nervous and would love to hear your experiences.
It has been 2 1/2 weeks since my lap and hysterectomy and I am still swollen too. We will just have to hang in there until the swelling goes away I guess. It would be nice to wear regular clothes though.
I had a umbilical hernia repair done at the same time as my hysterectomy. Two years later I started bleeding. Make sure you get sonograms. Many times you could have tearing in the lining of the intestines and/or hernias that bleed out into the vaginal canal from the hyst. surgery. NO doctor would ever tell you that because that would be med mal. Get either an MRI of your abdomen or a sonogram or get to a general surgeon and start complaining of the bleeding.
I'm a 67 year old woman with two children who it's eleven days post op with a hysterectomy, ovary and tube removal, and a sacrocolpopexy through the davinci robotic laparoscopic method. I returned to work yesterday as an accountant and worked for six hours. Lots of abdominal discomfort last night, some pressure, and what appeared to be some blood in my urine (pinkish color). My family thinks I'm pushing it. What do you think.
