Common Questions and Answers about 2 hour glucose tolerance test fasting

glucose

Avatar n tn I have been seeing an endocrinologist because I am constantly having low blood sugar readings and have had a high fasting blood glucose test of 8.3. My endocrinologist feels this may be due to my dysautonomia. She thought maybe reactive hypoglycemia because I am having low fasting glucose levels as well as high. I went for a 2hr OGTT today and I am feeling horrible after the test. My baseline was 4.8 @ 8:55 Given 75g of glucose to drink At 4.3 @ 9:25 At 4.8 @ 9:55 At 6.2 @ 10:25 At 6.
Avatar n tn I had a glucose tolerance test and an insulin fasting (drinking the glucose drink) blood test done. I have seen my results but have not had them interpreted for me. My glucose fasting results came back within normal range but my insulin fasting results came back out of range for the 0,1, & 2 hour results. They were much higher than the normal ranges. Does this mean I have insulin resistance?
Avatar f tn a fasting plasma glucose of more than 105 mg/dl, a 1-hour glucose level of more than 190 mg/dl, a 2-hour glucose level of more than 165 mg/dl, or a 3-hour glucose level of more than 145 mg/dl.
Avatar f tn Is this the glucose tolerance test they do to test for gestational diabetes? Just did my 3hr one this morning. Don't remember it being that bad with my first but the drink made we want to gag this time!
Avatar f tn Hey you guys..I will be six months on Tuesday and my next doctors appointment will be when I'm 26weeks and one day....I should be having my glucose tolerance test soon....I was wondering how was it for some of you? Like what was the process you had to go through? I'm just really curious before I have mime..
Avatar f tn There are different tests one is a screen and is non fasting. The other is a tolerance test which is fasting. If your Dr said to eat then its prob the screen you are going for which is why he'd have suggested the protein breakfast. Too much sugar can result in a false positive for the test.
306245 tn?1244384967 The accepted ways of screening for diabetes are a fasting glucose, a random glucose(not as good) or a 2 hour glucose tolerance test. A HgB A1C is sometimes used by doctors but it is not widely accepted as a good screening measure, so I suggest a fasting or an OGTT. You should also have a thyroid screen(TSH) done. Fasting glucose is not perfect, so yes you can have a "false negative" in terms of saying you have no abnormalities in glucose handling.
Avatar f tn I had milk and left over garlic bread not even an hour before I started the test. My results came out fine. They are only checking random glucose tolerance not fasting. The cutoff for the results are different so you don't need to worry. Normally Your body is supposed to produce insulin enough to cover your intake no matter how much you eat.
Avatar n tn Have you recently been retested by your doctor? If you drank a 75 gram glucose drink - for an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test [OGTT] - your preferred 2 hour maximum level is expected to be <140 mg/dl [< = less than]. However, some labs, and some doctors, use <180 mg/dl as the maximum range. Talk with your doctor and get properly tested - Fasting, OGTT and A1c tests. Lastly, try to restrict your consumption of bad carbs.
Avatar f tn I had my 1 hour glucose test and I was fasting and I didnt pass. So now I have to take the 3 hour one.
Avatar f tn You do have to drink a really sweet drink and then wait for an hour. You won't be able to leave the premises so bring something to do. You don't need to fast prior to the test. It's to see how your body metabolizes glucose. If your results fall within 'normal' you should be good to go. If not you'll have to do another glucose tolerance test. For this one you do have to fast (12 hours) and it's usually a 2 hour test.
915119 tn?1341948989 The only time I had blood drawn before the drink was the 3 hour test after I failed the 1 hour test. I did pass the 3 hour though. It was just a pain in the you know what.
Avatar n tn all my test fasting glucose normal , and test after i eat 2 hour (like 2 Mc donals rice) and normall , hba1c 5,4% ( normally 4,5% - 7%) and still normal.... I am overwight 160 cm and 90 Kg I test IGT with sweet drink 75g ( before i test Hba1c) and : *fasting glucose 93 *IGT after 30 minutes 165 30 minutes 207 30 minutes 205 60 minutes 165 how about me? am i normal??
Avatar n tn I was just informed I needed to do a 3 hour glucose tolerance test because my one hour was "very high" at 191. I have a calibrated glucometer and I've done finger/arm tests throughout the day and have not had anything remotely abnormal. I had a fasting blood sugar level of 93 first thing in the AM and all my levels after eating were 135 or below. Could the 191 have been error?
Avatar f tn There are 2 Glucose test. The one hour is screening test. Typically they don't tell you to not eat or drink prior to this. I chose not to eat anything the morning of the test. Because if your glucose is too on the screening test you will need to take the full glucose tolerance test (diagnostic test). Which is a pain. I failed my 1 hour test (1 point too high) so had to do the full three hour test. For this you do have to fast for at least 8-10 hours before the test.
